STEERINGHYDRAULIC
Typical outboards feature a hydraulic style steering system. e unit
utilizes check valves which permit hydraulic uid to pass through
the system allowing the steering arm at the outboard to turn the
vessel to port or starboard as the steering wheel is rotated in either
direction. is check valve cluster is located in a pump assembly
behind the steering wheel. e hardware at both the helm and
engine must be checked regularly for tightness, lubrication, and
leaks. See the steering system overview on the following page.
Check the steering system before each outing by turning steering
wheel fully to port and starboard. Check for  uid leaks at the helm
and outboard ends and air in the system.
ere is a hydraulic steering plug integrated into the dash that
must be removed before lling the system with uid. Refer to the
steering manufacturer’s information in the owner’s information
packet for lling instructions or contact a Regal dealer to schedule
maintenance. Filling hardware (plastic bottle, hose and hardware)
is needed for lling and bleeding the system. Note that only SeaStar
Steering Fluid is to be used.
AVOID BODILY INJURY, DEATH AND/OR PROPERTY DAMAGE
DUE TO LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL!
THE FLUID LEVEL MUST BE CHECKED AND MAINTAINED BEFORE
EACH USE TO ENSURE SAFE STEERING OPERATION.
INSPECT ENTIRE STEERING SYSTEM AT LEAST TWO (2)
TIMES PER YEAR.
