Using Joystick Control High Mode Function
Sometimes a strong wind or current will need to be off-
set by engaging the high mode function at the joystick
control. Once activated the engine idle will increase. This
feature can be especially useful when trying to dock or
maneuver in tight areas.
To use the High Mode Function;
1. Activate the high mode by pressing button (B) on the
joystick (see the illustration).
2. You will hear an audible signal indicating the docking
mode is activated and the docking lamp above the high
mode button will light (see illustration).
3. At this point the vessel can be maneuvered by moving
the joystick fore and aft, sideways, or rotating the vessel
by twisting the joystick top. See the illustration on the fol-
lowing page.
4. Leave the high mode function by pressing button (B).
An audible signal will sound twice to confi rm that the
high mode function is deactivated and the light will go
out.
5. The system is now in normal docking mode not con-
nected to the joystick control.
LATER JOYSTICK CONTROL
The Volvo EVC-D series has replaced the earlier EVC-C
model. The new joystick features a DPS (dynamic posi-
tioning system) button which can be added through the
retail dealer who orders the needed software from Volvo.
to activate the feature. See the illustration above.
The DPS feature assists in retaining a selected position
and compass heading from the vessel’s GPS signal. This
can be benefi cial while waiting for a dock or a bridge to
open.
When employing this feature the operator must main-
tain helm control since legally the vessel is considered to
be under way. Also, keep several boat lengths away from
swimmers, other vessels and objects.
Since the docking and high mode (boost) functions oper-
ate like the earlier joystick read the information found on
the earlier joystick.
Note that the docking lamps on the later joystick are inte-
grated in the button rather than above it.
