9. STARTING SYSTEM
9-1 RECOIL STARTER
Trouble in the recoil starter rarely happens while it is in normal operation.
If the starter develops trouble or when it is lubricated, carry out in accordance with following disassem-
bling and assembling procedures.
Tools ; Box spanner (spanner)
Pliers
Screwdriver
Nippers or Knife
9-1-1 HOW TO DISASSEMBLE (type D)
(1) Remove the recoil starter from engine.
(2) Pull the starter knob to draw out the starter
rope by about 30 cm and tie a tentative knot
as show in Fig. 9-1.
(3) Untie the knot inside the knob to remove the
knob.
(4) Hold the starter case and the reel firmly with
your left hand and untie the tentative knot with
your right hand.
Continue to hold the case and the reel with
your left hand and hold the reel center with
your right hand, then loosen both hands alter-
nately to allow the reel gradually to turn to the
arrow direction until the spring is completely
released.
(Do this carefully to avoid dangers caused by
spring-back.)
