COMPACT GARMENT STEAMER

Questions and Answers

Overview

The Rowenta Pro Compact Garment Steamer is a compact and portable appliance designed for household use to remove wrinkles and refresh garments with steam. It is a floor appliance and should not be carried while in use.

Function Description:

The primary function of the Rowenta Pro Compact Garment Steamer is to provide a continuous flow of steam to smooth out wrinkles from various fabrics. It is intended for steaming clothes while they are on a hanger, not while being worn. The steamer operates by heating water to produce steam, which is then directed through a steam head onto garments. It can be used with untreated tap water, although for very hard water, a mixture of tap water and distilled/demineralized water or just bottled spring water is recommended to prevent mineral buildup and ensure optimal performance.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Wattage: The appliance is available in 1300, 1400, or 1500 watts, depending on the model. Users should be mindful of circuit overload and avoid operating other high-wattage appliances on the same circuit.
  • Water Capacity: The water tank can hold a maximum of 33 ounces of water. It is crucial not to overfill the tank or fill it with hot water.
  • Heating Time: The steamer takes approximately 2.5 minutes to heat up and produce steam.
  • Cord Storage: It features an electric cord storage system located under the base of the unit.
  • Portability: The steamer is designed with a carry handle for easy portability and storage.

Usage Features:

  • Assembly: Before use, the steam hose must be inserted into the hole on the top of the unit by sliding out the eject knob. The power cord should be completely unwound. The appliance should not be plugged in or turned on until assembly is complete.
  • Water Filling: The water tank is filled through a designated filling inlet (9.a). For hard water, a 50/50 mix of tap water and distilled/demineralized water or solely bottled spring water is advised. The water level should not exceed the fill line.
  • Operation: To start, plug in the steamer and place it on the floor. The steam head should be hung on the door hook with vents pointing away from the door during heating. Press the On/Off switch (10), and the power indicator light will illuminate. Once steam is ready (after about 2.5 minutes), remove the steam head and place the garment on the hanger head.
  • Steaming Technique: Grasp the steam head handle with the vents pointing away from you. Steam by lightly touching the material with the steam head and moving in an up/down vertical motion, starting from the top of the garment. Keep the hose in an upright position to allow condensation to flow back into the steamer, preventing dripping.
  • Fabric Care: Always check fabric labels for recommendations and test for colorfastness on an unobtrusive part of the garment. Avoid touching silk or velvet with the steam head. Steaming from the underside may be more effective for some articles.
  • Condensation Management: The steamer hose may make a gurgling noise due to condensation. If this occurs, extend the hose up and out frequently to move excess moisture back into the base. If the hose becomes clogged, steam output may reduce, and dripping may occur.
  • Accessories (Model-Dependent):
    • Upholstery Brush (12): Aids steam penetration into difficult or heavy fabrics. Attaches by lining up the bottom of the brush with the steam head and pushing until it clicks. Removed by pressing a tab and pulling forward.
    • Fabric Brush (13): Opens the weave of fabrics for better steam penetration. Attaches and removes similarly to the upholstery brush.
    • Crease Attachment (14): Used to create pant creases or remove stubborn wrinkles. Slides onto the steam head over raised channels, then pushed into place. The handle opens to allow fabric insertion. Removed by sliding it off.
    • Lint Pad (15): A separate accessory not attached to the steam head. Removes hair, lint, and animal fur. Used by brushing clothing with the grain of the fabric. Cleaned by brushing in the opposite direction on an old cloth.
    • Door Hook (16): For hanging garments during steaming.
    • Steam Head Storage Slide (8): For storing the steam head.

Maintenance Features:

  • After Use: After steaming, switch off the power, unplug the appliance, and remove the steam hose. Be cautious of hot water remaining in the hose.
  • Emptying Water: Empty the water container from the emptying outlet (9.b).
  • Storage: Place the steam connector back, wrap the hose around the steamer, and insert the steam head onto its housing for secure storage. Wind the power cord under the appliance. Never turn the appliance upside down for cord winding or transport.
  • Cleaning: Clean the main unit with a damp cloth.
  • Descaling: To maintain maximum performance, the steamer must be descaled periodically, at least once a year or every 100 hours of use, more frequently with hard water.
    1. Unplug the unit.
    2. Fill with 1/3 white vinegar and 2/3 water.
    3. Let the appliance run for 3 minutes (do not steam clothing with this mixture).
    4. Switch off, unplug, and allow to cool for at least 30 minutes.
    5. Empty the water over a sink.
    6. Rinse with fresh water.
    7. Fill with fresh water and repeat steps 2-4. If buildup persists, repeat the descaling process with a new vinegar and water solution.
