What to do if Ryobi RCS4640N Chainsaw engine will not start?
    • J
      joseph76Aug 13, 2025
If your Ryobi Chainsaw engine won't start, there could be a few reasons. First, check the spark plug for cracks or damage and replace it if needed. If that doesn't work, the engine might be flooded. To fix a flooded engine, turn off the ignition switch, remove the spark plug, move the choke lever to the run position, and pull the starter cord 15 to 20 times. Then, clean and reinstall the spark plug. Set the ignition switch to run, push and release the primer bulb 10 times, and pull the starter cord three times with the choke lever at run. If it still doesn't start, try the normal starting procedure with the choke lever at choke. If the engine still fails to start, repeat the procedure with a new spark plug.

      Aaron TerryAug 17, 2025
If your Ryobi Chainsaw engine doesn't reach full speed and/or emits excessive smoke, several factors could be responsible. Be sure to use fresh fuel and the correct 2-stroke lubricant mix ratio. A dirty air filter can also cause this issue, so clean it. Also a dirty spark arrester screen may be the cause. In addition, the carburetor may require adjustment by a qualified service dealer.

If the engine of your Ryobi Chainsaw starts but won't accelerate properly, check for lubricating function. Run at half throttle for 30 to 45 seconds, then stop the saw and check for lubricant dripping from the guide bar. If lubricant is present, the chain may be dull or the bar may be damaged. If there's no lubricant, contact a service dealer.
