1. Disassembly
NOTE: REFER TO "TESTING AND FAULT ISOLATION" TO FIND THE CONDITION OF
THE COMPONENT OR THE POSSIBLE CAUSE OF ITS MALFUNCTION. THIS WILL
GIVE THE NECESSARY LEVEL OF DISASSEMBLY.
WARNING: DO ALL STEPS ON FULLY DISCHARGED BATTERIES.
A. Removal of a cover
- Remove the screws (020A) with their spring washers (030A).
- Remove the nut (270A), the nut (280A) and the washers (260A).
- Remove the cover (060A).
B. Removal of a vented filler cap (safety cap):
- Loosen the vented filler cap (330A) with the special tool (Refer to
figure 901).
- Remove the vented filler cap with its O-ring (340A).
C. Removal of a cell:
- Remove the nuts (120A), the screws (110A) and the washers (030A),
then take out hold-down bar (240A).
- Remove the nuts (350A) that attach the links to the cell. Remove
the spring washers (370A).
- Remove the links from the cell terminals.
- Fully engage the end of the special threaded tool (Refer to
figure 903) on one of the cell terminals. Then pull up to remove
the cell.
D. Removal of the temperature sensor.
- Remove the nuts (350A) and spring washers (370A) that hold the link
(310A).Take out link (310A) and the thermostat.
- Remove the nut (430A) and thermostat from link (310A).
- Cut the cable grip (13OA).
- Push right to hole the temperature sensor grommet. Then take out
the thermostat and its connector.
