General overhaul
This overhaul includes the electrical tests given in paragraph 2.8. It
also includes the disassembly and cleaning procedures to be done
systematically for all the battery components. Do an overhaul one time
each year or during each most important servicing of the aircraft.
Do these steps:
- Disassemble the battery
- Clean the battery
- Do a battery test
- Do an insulation test.
A. Disassemble the battery (Refer to "DISASSEMBLY").
B. Clean the battery (Refer to "CLEANING").
C. Do a battery test:
(1) Cells:
- Make sure that the lower terminal nuts are tight:
- Tightening torque: 5 rt 0.5 N.m (3.69 f 0.369 ft.lbf).
- Do a leak test of the cells:
- Install a metal or plastic adaptor with an O-ring as an
alternative to the vented filler cap.
- Put the cell between two metal flanges of correct dimension to
prevent too much distortion.
The terminals must be parallel to
the flanges.
Attach the adaptor to a compressed air supply with an adjustable
reducing vented filler cap of the adjustable reducing type ;
fully put the cell and flange assembly into clean water ;
increase the pressure in the cell to 0.7 bar (10 psi).
- Make sure there are no air bubbles.
