This document describes the BCH42E petrol brushcutter, a versatile tool designed for various landscaping tasks.
Function Description
The BCH42E is a petrol-powered brushcutter capable of operating in two modes: as a power scythe with a cutting blade for tackling young trees, strong weeds, and undergrowth, and as a power trimmer with a line spool for cutting lawns, grassed areas, and small weeds. It is designed for outdoor use and requires careful adherence to the operating and safety instructions provided in the manual. The equipment is not intended for commercial, trade, or industrial applications, and its warranty will be voided if used for such purposes. It should not be used for cleaning dirt/debris off walkways, chopping tree/hedge clippings, or leveling high areas like molehills. The brushcutter should not be used as a drive unit for other work tools or toolkits.

Usage Features
Assembly:
The brushcutter requires assembly of the handle, shaft, and safe guard before use. The bike-type handle is assembled by releasing inner hex screws, positioning the handles, and then tightening the screws. The shaft is mounted by pushing the lower part until the stop pin slots into the hole, rotating slightly if needed, and securing with a knob. The safe guard is fixed with an enclosed hex key and wrench.
Cutting Head Assembly:
The cutting head can be assembled for either grass trimming (nylon cutting head) or brush cutting (cutter blade). For the nylon cutting head, the nut is released, holes in the flange and shield are aligned, and the nylon head is rotated counter-clockwise onto the shaft. For the cutter blade, the outer flange is removed, the blade, outer flange, shield, and nut are assembled in sequence, ensuring the blade rotation direction matches the picture, and then tightened counter-clockwise.
Starting the Engine:
- Place the unit on a hard, level surface.
- Set the engine switch to the ON position.
- Open the choke lever.
- Press the fuel pump more than 5 times.
- Pull the starter rope 3-5 times until the engine starts. For electric starter models, press the electric starter button.
- Once started, close the choke lever.
- To operate, press the release lever and then the throttle lever. To lock the throttle at half-speed, press the lock button.
Adjusting Line Length:
The machine features a "Tap & Go" cutting head. To release more line, tap the cutting head against the ground while the engine is at top speed. The line automatically extends, and the integrated blade on the guard trims it to the optimum length.
Working Instructions:
- Extending the cutting line: Always use the "Tap & Go" method. Never use metal wire or plastic-coated metal wire in the line spool, as this can cause serious injury.
- Different cutting methods: The brushcutter can effectively cut weeds and tall grass in hard-to-reach areas (fences, walls, foundations, around trees). It can also be used for "mowing" to clear vegetation for garden preparation.
- Trimming/Mowing: Swing the trimmer from side to side in a scythe-like motion, keeping the line spool parallel to the ground. Maintain engine speed at the required level.
- Low trimming: Hold the trimmer slightly tilted forward so the underside of the spool is above the ground and the line makes contact. Always cut away from yourself.
- Cutting along fences/foundations: Approach slowly to cut close without hitting the obstacle. Contact with stones, walls, or fences will cause line wear or breakage.
- Trimming around trees: Approach slowly to avoid damaging the bark. Cut from left to right, using the tip of the line.
- Mowing: For full vegetation removal, tilt the line spool at a 30-degree angle to the right.
Safety Precautions:
- Always wear substantial footwear, long trousers, protective helmet, ear protection, safety glasses, and work gloves.
- Keep children, bystanders, and helpers at least 15 meters away.
- Thoroughly inspect the work area for stones, sticks, wires, bones, and other foreign objects.
- Never operate with defective guards or without safety devices.
- The exhaust and other engine parts become very hot; avoid touching them.
- Always turn off the engine and allow it to cool before refueling.
- Beware of kickback when using the cutting blade on hard objects.
- Do not use saw blades or multi-part metal cutting tools.
- Do not operate the engine indoors due to harmful carbon monoxide emissions.
- If the machine strikes an object or vibrates abnormally, stop the engine immediately and inspect for damage.
- Remove the battery pack from the engine battery tray before any adjustments or repairs. Battery chemicals are toxic and corrosive.
- This electric tool generates an electromagnetic field that can impair active or passive medical implants. Consult a physician before operating if you have such implants.
Maintenance Features
Maintenance Schedule:
- Air filter: Clean every 12 hours of use, clean every 24 hours of use, replace every 36 hours of use.
- Spark plug: Check every 12 hours of use, clean every 24 hours of use, replace every 36 hours of use.
Required Expert Inspection:
- If the brushcutter strikes an object.
- If the motor stops suddenly.
- If the blade is bent (do not align it yourself!).
- If the gears are damaged.
Replacing the Line Spool/Cutting Line:
- Disassemble the line spool by compressing it and removing one half of the housing.
- Remove the spool plate from the housing.
- Remove any remaining cutting line.
- Fold the new cutting line in the middle and hook the loop into the spool plate's recess.
- Wind the line onto the spool counter-clockwise under tension. The spool divider will separate the two halves of the line.
- Hook the last 15 cm of the line ends into the opposite line holders of the spool plate.
- Thread the two ends of the line through the metal eyelets in the spool housing.
- Push the spool plate into the line spool housing.
- Pull the two line ends sharply to release them from the line holders.
- Reassemble the housing halves.
- Cut excess line to about 13 cm to reduce engine load during start-up and warm-up.
- Remount the line spool.
Sharpening the Cutter Blade:
If the cutter blade becomes blunt, loosen the screws, secure the blade in a vice, and sharpen all 3 blades with a flat file, maintaining the cutting edge angle. Sharpen in one direction only. Replace or resharpen the blade at the end of each mowing season or as needed. Unbalanced blades cause strong vibrations and pose an injury risk.
Replacing and Cleaning the Spark Plug:
- Once the engine has cooled, remove the spark plug with the provided socket wrench.
- Clean the spark plug with a wire brush.
- Adjust the gap to 0.5-0.7 mm using a feeler gauge.
- Carefully insert the spark plug by hand to avoid damaging the thread.
- Tighten the spark plug with the socket wrench.
Cleaning the Air Filter:
Dirty air filters reduce engine power. Regularly inspect and clean the air filter.
- Loosen the air filter cover and remove the foam filter element.
- Reinstall the air filter cover to prevent objects from falling into the air duct.
- Wash the filter element in warm soapy water, rinse, and air-dry. Never clean with petrol or flammable solvents. Never run the engine without the air filter element installed.
Lubricating the Angle Transmission:
Lubricate with lithium-based grease. Remove the screw, add grease, turn the shaft manually until grease emerges, then replace the screw.
Cleaning and Storage:
- Clean the equipment thoroughly after use with a damp cloth and mild detergent.
- Keep handles oil-free for a secure grip.
- Remove the battery pack before cleaning.
- Store the brushcutter in a dry, secure place out of reach of children.
- For storage longer than 30 days, drain the fuel tank, run the engine until it stops, allow it to cool, remove the spark plug, add a teaspoon of clean 2-stroke oil to the combustion chamber, and slowly pull the starter cord several times to coat internal components. Reinstall the spark plug.
- Store away from ignition sources.
Disposal and Recycling:
Packaging materials are recyclable. Dispose of packaging materials environmentally.
Old electrical and electronic devices, batteries, and fuels/oils must not be disposed of with household waste. They must be collected and disposed of separately according to local regulations. Remove batteries before disposal; they contain pollutants and heavy metals. Integrated rechargeable batteries must be removed and disposed of separately.
