Overview

This document is an installation and user guide for the Schweigen GG-6C rangehood.

Function Description

The Schweigen GG-6C is a rangehood designed for household use to extract cooking fumes from the kitchen. It can be installed as a ducted or recirculating unit. In ducted mode, it expels fumes outside via ducting. In recirculating mode, it filters the air and returns it to the room (requires optional carbon filters). The rangehood features a motor to draw air, filters to capture grease, and lights to illuminate the cooking area.

  • Post-cooking Operation: Turn the rangehood motor off about 10-15 minutes after finishing cooking to clear remaining vapours.
  • Induction Cooktop Considerations: To reduce condensation, turn on the rangehood 5-10 minutes prior to cooking, leave it on for 5-10 minutes after, and start cooking at a low-to-medium setting to allow the rangehood to warm up.

Maintenance Features

  • Cleaning the Interior: Use a damp cloth and a neutral detergent or denatured alcohol. Avoid cleaning electrical parts or the motor with liquids/solvents.
  • Cleaning the Exterior: Use a soft cloth, water, and liquid soap. Rinse well and dry thoroughly. High-quality cleaning and protection products (e.g., Steel Kleen) can be used. Apply the solution to a soft cloth and rub in the direction of the stained surface. Do not pour liquid directly onto the rangehood. Avoid chemical solvents, aggressive, grainy, abrasive products, naphtha, alcohol, or similar products.
  • Grease Filters:
    • Function: Absorb grease particles during cooking.
    • Cleaning Frequency: Every 3-6 weeks or after 40 hours of use. For induction cooktops, clean at least every 10 days.
    • Cleaning Method (Hand): Immerse in hot water with suitable detergent, then rinse with plenty of hot water.
    • Cleaning Method (Dishwasher): Use a short program at low temperature. Note: Metal mesh filters may change color after washing, which is normal.
    • Installation: Ensure filters are completely dry before re-installing. To remove, press the handle, bend slightly, and pull through the front guide. Reverse the process for replacement.
    • Warning: Clogged filters reduce efficiency and pose a fire risk. Do not operate the rangehood without grease filters.
  • Carbon Filters (Optional for Recirculation Mode):
    • Installation: Detach grease filter, press lock, pull downward. Plug the activated carbon filter into the unit and turn clockwise. Repeat on the other side. Ensure it's securely locked.
    • Replacement Frequency: Every 4 to 6 months, depending on cooking frequency and method.
    • Note: Suction power may be lower when carbon filters are attached.
  • Replacing the Light Bulb:
    • Safety: Always switch off and disconnect power before replacing. Bulbs retain heat for a short period after being switched off.
    • Steps:
      1. Remove filters.
      2. Gently turn the light bulb clockwise, pull it down, and remove it from the holder.
      3. Insert a new bulb by lining up pins with larger holes in the holder, then turn anti-clockwise to secure.
