4-13. LANDING APPROACH
1. Set engine rpm at 2700.
CAU TION
Fire can re sult from a land ing in tall dry grass due to ex -
haust heat; ex er cise care in se lect ing land ing site. In
case of a grass fire move air craft to a clear area.
CAU TION
At high power set tings an overspeed might oc cur if
throt tle is not re duced slightly when col lec tive is low -
ered.
2. Slow airspeed to approximately 53 kt (61 mph) for a normal
approach and reduce collective for the desired rate of descent.
Maintain 2700 rpm. On approaching the desired landing spot,
reduce airspeed and rate of descent until a hover is established.
4-14. RUNNING LANDING
CAU TION
Avoid rapid low er ing of col lec tive pitch con trol af ter
ground con tact.
Thirty-six (36) knots (41 mph) maximum recommended ground
contact speed for smooth hard surface.
4-15. ENGINE COOLING SHUTDOWN
1. Perform Paragraph 4-16 if last flight of day.
