1.2 The Scientifica Motorised Moveable Base Plate
(
MMBP)
1.2.1 Product overview
T
he MMBP is a low-level, moving platform for mounting manipulators
and a sample around a microscope. It has been developed to form a
flexible, solid foundation for an electrophysiology and imaging rig.
The MMBP allows the user to move micromanipulators, the sample and
any other equipment mounted on the surface as one, in relation to a
fixed microscope. This is in contrast to setups where a microscope is
translated via a moving stage. The MMBP therefore enables the user to
translate a sample in combination with imaging techniques that restrict
the movement of the microscope frame.
Additionally, the versatility of the sample holder and manipulator
positioning ensure that the same rig can be used for both in vitro and in
vivo applications.
