3 Building the MMBP around your microscope
The main MMBP structure consists of three components:
The top plate
A motorised moveable stage (with two cables attached)
A freely moving ‘slave’ stage
The motorised stage is directly driven by the control system. The ‘slave’
stage simple supports the top plate and follows the movement dictated
by the motorised stage.
3.3.1 Positioning the MMBP
Note: the MMBP has a total travel of 50 mm in both the X
and the Y axis – the top plate will therefore need to be
positioned carefully to allow full movement and access
around the microscope.
Figure C: Orientation of stages
1. Position and attach the post and platform sample plate holder as
directed in section 3.2.
2. Remove both of the red shipping brackets from the motorised
stage using the hex key set provided. Place the stage on your
anti-vibration table on the side nearest to the control rack.
3. Connect up the motorised stage using instructions in section 3.5.
Be sure not to connect or disconnect any cables while the 1U
rack controller is powered on (indicated by the illuminated purple
badge).
