Overview

The OS2 230V AC Controller is a control unit designed for use with 3-wire 230V AC actuators and magnets within natural ventilation systems. This device functions as either a standalone unit or as part of a Building Management System (BMS) managed control system, offering a range of control inputs and outputs.

Function Description:

The controller manages the operation of 230V AC actuators and magnets by responding to various control inputs. It provides timed power output to actuators for opening and closing, with adjustable periods for different operational modes. The unit can operate in both automatic and manual modes, with priority given to certain control inputs. It also includes features for network integration with other controllers.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power: Class 1 device.
  • Input Supply: 230V AC 50/60 Hz from a 6A fused unswitched spur.
  • Current Rating: 6A.
  • Output: 230V AC Single Channel.
  • Real-time Clock: Battery-backed (support life 10 years).
  • IP Rating: IP20.
  • Humidity Range: 10 to 90% Non-Condensing.
  • Storage Temperature: -20 to +75°C.
  • Operating Temperature: -10 to +50°C.
  • Part Number: FCS 0021 0001.
  • Dimensions: 220x 209x 124mm.
  • Weight: 1.2kg (approx).
  • Cable Capacity: All controller cable terminals have a capacity of 2.5mm² stranded and 4mm² solid core cables.
  • Control Connection Devices: Must be volt-free and capable of switching 24V DC at a nominal current of 10mA.
  • Fusing: FH1 (ELV Auxiliary supply) 200mA, FH2 (AC Supply) 10A.

Usage Features:

  • Control Inputs: The controller supports 7+1 control inputs in priority order: Caretaker Demand, Slave Demand & Follower Demand, Rain Sensor Demand, Day to Day & Thermostat & 0-10V analogue.
  • Caretaker Demand: Connecting CD to 0V closes all attached actuators and locks out other inputs until disconnected. Actuator power is timed off after 180 seconds (factory adjustable).
  • Slave Inputs: Designed for 24VDC voltage levels. Connecting SBL and SBR to a master controller's outputs allows the local controller to act as a slave. Requires a 2-core cable.
  • Follower Inputs: Designed for 230VAC voltage levels. Connecting E/N/L1/L2 between master and slave controllers allows the local controller to act as a slave. Requires a 3-core + earth cable.
  • Rain Sensor: Connecting RNS to 0V closes all attached actuators. By default, thermostat, Day to Day, and 0-10V inputs are ignored under this condition. Actuator power is timed off after 180 seconds (factory adjustable). Rain sensor movements are subject to a 180-second lockout period.
  • Day to Day Switch: Connecting DO (open) or DC (close) to 0V opens or closes all attached actuators. A retractive 3-position switch with 2 normally open contacts is recommended. Actuator power is timed off after 18 seconds for opening (factory adjustable) and after 180 seconds for closing (factory adjustable) to ensure full closure.
  • Thermostat Input: Requires jumper on CN4 set to 'T'. Connecting T/A to 0V opens all actuators; breaking the connection closes them. Actuator power is timed off after 180 seconds (factory adjustable). Thermostat-controlled movements are subject to a 180-second lockout period.
  • 0-10V Analogue Input: Requires jumper on CN4 set to 'A'. Applying a 0-10V voltage to T/A (relative to 0V) positions the actuator, assuming 1V = 10% opening. The controller calculates position using (input voltage)/10 * 18 (18 seconds is factory adjustable). If input voltage is 0V, power is applied to close actuators, timing off after 180 seconds.
  • Auto/Manual Input: Connecting AUT to 0V places the controller in automatic mode; breaking the connection places it in manual mode. In manual mode, all input controls (thermostat, Day to Day, 0-10V) operate. In automatic mode, only automatic controls (thermostat, 0-10V) operate. A 1-hour timer is initiated when Day to Day controls are used, locking out auto controls. Resetting the AUT to 0V connection resets this timer.
  • Network Connection: Connections NA, NB, and SCR are used for forming network connections between controllers, requiring suitable network interface plug-in boards.
  • Pushbuttons:
    • SVC: Used during LONWorks system commissioning (requires additional hardware, factory use only).
    • LEARN: Reserved for factory use only.
  • Indicators:
    • LD1 WINK (Red): Used during LONWorks system commissioning (requires additional hardware, factory use only).
    • LD2 HLTY (Green): Healthy Lamp - Lit when no internal faults are identified.
    • LD3 POW (Green): Lit when Mains supply is connected.
    • LD4 WDG (Yellow): Watchdog - Flashes to indicate software running correctly.
    • LD5 OPN (Red): Lit when output energized to open.
    • LD6 CLS (Green): Lit when output energized to close.
  • Volt Free Status Connections (CN3 Terminal):
    • COM: Healthy Relay Common.
    • NC: Healthy Relay Normally Closed (open when healthy).
    • NO: Healthy Relay Normally Open (closed when healthy).
    • 24V: Power supply rail for driving an external indicator or relay.
    • LP: Switch to ground output for driving an external indicator or relay.

Maintenance Features:

  • Fusing: Includes FH1 (ELV Auxiliary supply 200mA) and FH2 (AC Supply 10A) fuses. If a fuse blows, it is recommended to check wiring and external devices for damage and incorrect termination/earth faults.
  • Disposal: Advice on disposal should be sought from the local environmental officer, a recycling, or waste management specialist.
  • Health and Safety: No substances or products present or used in the manufacture of this controller constitute a health risk (COSHH compliant).

Important Notices:

  • The equipment has no mains on/off switch and is intended for permanent connection.
  • Do NOT use a plug for external mains supply.
  • Do NOT make adjustments or alterations to the device or its enclosure.
  • Installation must be performed by electrically qualified persons.
  • Ensure electrical integrity of external wiring is tested.
  • Install the device according to manufacturer's instructions and current electrical regulations for fixed equipment.
  • Use the controller only for its intended purpose.
  • The controller enclosure is rated IP20 and should not be mounted in damp/wet locations, areas with significant dust, or potentially explosive atmospheres.
