How to fix a Selden Marine Equipment sail that won't unfurl?
    • S
      Stephanie ReeseAug 20, 2025
If your Selden Marine Equipment sail won't unfurl, it could be due to several reasons. The jib halyard or another halyard might be wrapped around the luff extrusion; try easing the halyard slightly and reversing the system, or furl the system and free the halyard. Other possible causes include: * The furling line is not free to run or has become tangled: Slacken or free the furling line. * The forestay is too slack: Tension the forestay by tensioning the backstay and/or the cap shrouds. If this doesn’t help, decrease the length of the Furlex-system. * Dirt and salt in the bearings: Rinse the bearings with fresh water and lubricate with Furlex grease. * Too much strain on the halyard: Ease the halyard off.

What to do if a Selden Furlex 204S Marine Equipment sail cannot be taken down?
    • J
      jessica06Aug 23, 2025
If your Selden Marine Equipment sail cannot be taken down, it could be because the halyard is wrapped around the top of the luff extrusion. Try easing the halyard off and reversing the system. Alternatively, the halyard may be wrapping around the luff extrusion as the sail is coming down; in this case, tension the halyard manually, keeping a slight drag on it while taking the sail down. It's also possible that the halyard is stuck, so check the halyard routing (sheaves, stoppers etc).

Why does my Selden Furlex 204S sail unfurl after furling?
    • C
      Christopher SantiagoAug 26, 2025
Your Selden Marine Equipment sail may unfurl after reefing or furling if it's not furled tightly enough. Try furling with some drag on the line. Also, ensure the furling line is properly belayed after furling.

Why does my Selden Furlex 204S system wobble when furling?
    • P
      pfrankAug 28, 2025
If your Selden Marine Equipment system wobbles during furling and unfurling, it is likely that the forestay is too loose. To resolve this, tension the backstay and/or the cap shrouds, which will, in turn, tension the forestay.

Why is my Selden Marine Equipment sail hard to hoist?
    • E
      Elizabeth ZhangAug 31, 2025
A Selden Marine Equipment sail can be hard to hoist for several reasons. The luff tape might be too thick, in which case you should return the sail to the sailmaker and refer to the sailmaker information in this manual. Alternatively, the sail might be caught on something or not sufficiently loose on the foredeck, so arrange the sail better. Other possible causes include a fault in the halyard routing (check the sheaves, winch etc.) or dirt and salt in the luff groove (clean the luff groove).

Why is the UV protection on the inside of my furled Selden Furlex 204S sail?
    • G
      Gilbert FlynnSep 2, 2025
If the UV protection of your Selden Marine Equipment sail is on the inside when furled, it's likely that the furling line is wound on the drum in the wrong direction. To correct this, remove the sheet from the sail and gather the sail around the Furlex- system with a rope. Pull on the line until the drum is empty. Wind a couple of turns onto the drum by hand in the opposite direction. Re-attach the sheet and unfurl the sail. Furl in and check that there are 3-5 turns left on the drum when the sail is fully furled in.

What causes the luff to not be tensioned on my Selden Furlex 204S Marine Equipment?
    • S
      Sandra BarnesSep 5, 2025
The luff of your Selden Marine Equipment may not be tensioned if the halyard swivel comes into contact with the top guard, indicating that the luff of the sail is too long. In this case, have the sail shortened by the sailmaker. Another reason could be that the angle between the forestay and the halyard is too great; shorten the sail or move the halyard lead up.

Why is the Selden Furlex 204S Marine Equipment sail wrinkled at the tack?
    • G
      Gary MillsSep 8, 2025
If your Selden Marine Equipment sail is wrinkled at the tack, it could be because the tack ring was twisted in the wrong direction before tacking the sail. To fix this, unfurl the sail and ease off the halyard. Undo the tack snap shackle. Rotate the tack ring ”around the system” and retack the sail. Furl slowly and check that the furling of the tack is retarded by one revolution in relation to the luff extrusion. Another possibility is that the sail is old or incorrectly cut.

Why does the leach flog on my Selden Furlex 204S even when sheeting hard?
    • M
      Michelle MillerSep 12, 2025
If the leach of your Selden Marine Equipment sail flogs despite sheeting hard, it could be due to an incorrect sheeting point. Try moving the sheeting point forward. It might also be caused by an incorrectly tensioned leach line. Adjust the leach line.

Why does the leach close (bend inwards) on my Selden Marine Equipment?
    • D
      Dr. Brittany BowenSep 14, 2025
If the leach on your Selden Marine Equipment closes (bends inwards), it may be due to an incorrect sheeting point. Try moving the sheeting point backwards. Another possible cause is that the sail is old or incorrectly cut.
