Why does my Selden Furlex 300 S system wobble when furling and unfurling?
    • W
      wmortonAug 16, 2025
If your Selden Marine Equipment system 'wobbles' during furling and unfurling, it's likely the forestay is too loose. Try tensioning the forestay and/or backstay to resolve this issue.

Why is my Selden Furlex 300 S Marine Equipment sail wrinkled at the tack?
    • S
      Stacie McneilSep 12, 2025
If your Selden Marine Equipment sail is wrinkled at the tack, it could be due to the tack ring being twisted in the wrong direction before tacking the sail, or because the sail is old or incorrectly cut. To fix a twisted tack ring, unfurl the sail and ease off the halyard. Undo the tack snap shackle, rotate the tack ring ”around the system”, and retack the sail. Furl slowly, ensuring the furling of the tack is retarded by one revolution relative to the luff extrusion. If the sail is old or incorrectly cut, consult your sailmaker.

What to do if my Selden Furlex 300 S Marine Equipment sail won't furl properly?
    • D
      David MartinezAug 23, 2025
If your Selden Marine Equipment sail won't furl, is hard to furl, or can only be partly furled, try the following: * Ease the halyard slightly and reverse the system. * Unfurl the system and free the halyard. * Unfurl the sail, take it down, and wind more line on the drum. Alternatively, loosen the sheet, gather the sail around the system with a rope, and wind more line on the drum. * Increase forestay tension. * Let the leeward sheet off more. * Release or sort out the sheet. * Rinse the bearings with fresh water and lubricate with Furlex grease. * Reroute the furling line, avoiding large turning angles.

How to fix a Selden Furlex 300 S sail that won't unfurl completely?
    • M
      Michael SchneiderAug 26, 2025
If your Selden Marine Equipment sail will not unfurl or only partly unfurls, try the following: 1. Ease the halyard slightly and try to reverse the system. 2. Furl the system and free the halyard. 3. Slacken or free the furling line. 4. Tension the forestay, first by tensioning the backstay adjuster or backstays. If this doesn’t help, decrease the length of the Furlex-system. 5. Rinse the bearings with fresh water and lubricate with Furlex grease. 6. Ease the halyard off.

What causes the leach to flog on my Selden Furlex 300 S sail even when sheeting hard?
    • C
      campbelldonnaAug 28, 2025
If the leach of your Selden Marine Equipment sail flogs despite sheeting hard, it could be due to an incorrect sheeting point or an incorrectly tensioned leach line, or the sail is old or incorrectly cut. Try moving the sheeting point forward or adjusting the leach line. If the sail is old or incorrectly cut, consult your sailmaker.

Why does the leach close (bend inwards) on my Selden Marine Equipment sail?
    • L
      Lisa GrahamAug 31, 2025
If the leach of your Selden Marine Equipment sail closes (bends inwards), it could be due to an incorrect sheeting point, or because the sail is old or incorrectly cut. Try moving the sheeting point backwards. If the sail is old or incorrectly cut, consult your sailmaker.

What to do if my Selden Furlex 300 S Marine Equipment sail unfurls after furling?
    • Z
      zhicksSep 3, 2025
If your Selden Marine Equipment sail unfurls after reefing or furling, try furling with some drag on the line or furl and belay the furling line.

Why can't I tension the luff on my Selden Furlex 300 S sail?
    • C
      Corey MayoSep 6, 2025
If the luff of your Selden Marine Equipment cannot be tensioned, it may be because the halyard swivel is contacting the top guard, or the angle between the forestay and the halyard is too great. If the halyard swivel is contacting the top guard, have the sail shortened by the sailmaker. If the angle between the forestay and the halyard is too great, shorten the sail or move the halyard lead up.

Why is my Selden Marine Equipment sail hard to hoist?
    • M
      Michael MorrisSep 9, 2025
If your Selden Marine Equipment sail is hard to hoist, arrange the sail better on the foredeck, check the sheaves and winch, and clean the luff groove. You may also need to return the sail to the sailmaker, referring to the Furlex manual, chapter 7.1.1 ”Table of sail measurements”.

What to do if my Selden Marine Equipment sail cannot be taken down?
    • Z
      zfletcherSep 12, 2025
To take down a Selden Marine Equipment sail that cannot be taken down: * Ease the halyard off and try to reverse the system. * Tension the halyard manually, keeping a slight drag on it while taking the sail down. * Check the halyard routing (sheaves, stoppers, etc.).
