What to do if my Selden Furlex 400 S sail won't unfurl completely?
    • J
      James PerkinsAug 20, 2025
If your Selden Marine Equipment sail won't unfurl fully or only unfurls partially, it might be because the jib halyard is wrapped around the luff extrusion. Try easing the halyard slightly and reversing the system. Another halyard could also be wrapped around the luff extrusion; if so, furl the system and free the halyard. Check if the furling line is free to run and isn't tangled; if it is, slacken or free the furling line. Ensure the forestay isn't too slack by tensioning the backstay adjuster or backstays, or decreasing the length of the Furlex-system. Dirt and salt in the bearings can also cause this issue; rinse the bearings with fresh water and lubricate with Furlex grease. Finally, too much strain on the halyard can be a cause; ease the halyard off.

Why does my Selden Marine Equipment system wobble when furling?
    • H
      Hayden MurphyAug 22, 2025
If the Selden Marine Equipment system ‘wobbles’ when furling and unfurling, it is likely that the forestay is too loose. To resolve this, tension the forestay and/or backstay.

Why is the UV protection on the inside of my Selden Furlex 400 S Marine Equipment furled sail?
    • M
      Maria TannerAug 26, 2025
If the sail's UV protection is on the inside of the furled sail of your Selden Marine Equipment, it indicates that the furling line is wound on the drum in the wrong direction. To correct this, remove the sheet from the sail and gather the sail around the Furlex-system with a rope. Pull on the line until the drum is empty. Wind a couple of turns on the drum by hand in the right direction. Unfurl the sail, then furl it again, checking the number of turns of furling line on the drum.

What to do if Selden Marine Equipment sail unfurls after furling?
    • M
      Matthew AbbottAug 28, 2025
If your Selden Marine Equipment sail unfurls after reefing or furling, it could be due to not furling the sail tightly enough. Make sure to furl with some drag on the line. Also, ensure that the furling line is properly belayed after furling to prevent it from unwinding.

What to do if my Selden Furlex 400 S Marine Equipment sail cannot be taken down?
    • T
      tklineAug 30, 2025
If the sail cannot be taken down on your Selden Marine Equipment, it could be that the halyard is wrapped around the top of the luff extrusion. Ease the halyard off and try to reverse the system. The halyard may also wrap around the luff extrusion as the sail is coming down, so tension the halyard manually, keeping a slight drag on it while taking the sail down. Also, the halyard could be stuck, so check the halyard routing (sheaves, stoppers etc).

How to fix a sail wrinkled at the tack on Selden Marine Equipment?
    • M
      melissarodriguezSep 2, 2025
If the sail is wrinkled at the tack on your Selden Marine Equipment, it might be because the tack ring was twisted in the wrong direction before tacking the sail. To fix this, unfurl the sail and ease off the halyard. Undo the tack snap shackle, rotate the tack ring “around the system”, and retack the sail. Furl slowly and check that the furling of the tack is retarded by one revolution in relation to the luff extrusion.

Why the luff cannot be tensioned on my Selden Furlex 400 S Marine Equipment?
    • R
      Rodney CarterSep 5, 2025
If the luff cannot be tensioned on your Selden Marine Equipment, it may be because the halyard swivel comes into contact with the top guard. The luff of the sail is then too long, so have the sail shortened by the sailmaker. It could also be that the angle between the forestay and the halyard is too great, so shorten the sail or move the halyard lead up.

Why is my Selden Furlex 400 S sail hard to hoist?
    • A
      Andrea BridgesSep 8, 2025
If the sail is hard to hoist on your Selden Marine Equipment, the luff tape might be too thick. Return the sail to the sailmaker and refer to Furlex manual, chapter 7.1.1 ”Table of sail measurements”. The sail may also be caught on something or is not sufficiently loose on the foredeck, so arrange the sail better on the foredeck. There may also be a fault in halyard routing, so check the sheaves, winch etc. Finally, dirt and salt may be in the luff groove, so clean the luff groove.

Why does the leach close on my Selden Furlex 400 S Marine Equipment?
    • S
      Stephanie LarsonSep 12, 2025
If the leach closes (bends inwards) on your Selden Marine Equipment, it is likely due to an incorrect sheeting point. Try moving the sheeting point backwards. Alternatively, the sail may be old or incorrectly cut, in which case you should consult your sailmaker.

Why does the leach flog on my Selden Furlex 400 S Marine Equipment even when sheeting hard?
    • A
      Angela MeadowsSep 13, 2025
If the leach flogs despite sheeting hard on your Selden Marine Equipment, it could be due to an incorrect sheeting point. Move the sheeting point forward to correct this. It may also be due to an incorrectly tensioned leach line, so adjust the leach line (consult your sailmaker). The sail could also be old or incorrectly cut, in which case you should consult your sailmaker.
