Troubleshooting Guide

Overview

The Shark Rotator Lift-Away Speed NV600 Series is a versatile upright vacuum cleaner designed for comprehensive home cleaning. Its primary function is to provide powerful suction for various surfaces, from hard floors to carpets, and to offer flexible cleaning modes for both upright and above-floor tasks. The vacuum's design emphasizes ease of use and adaptability, allowing users to transition between different cleaning scenarios efficiently.

One of the key usage features of this vacuum is its ability to operate in an upright mode for general floor cleaning. In this mode, the user can select between "Hard Floor" and "Carpet" settings using a power/surface selector. The "Hard Floor" setting is ideal for cleaning hard surfaces and area rugs, where the brushroll does not spin, preventing scattering of debris and protecting delicate floors. For carpets, the "Carpet" setting activates a fast-spinning brushroll, designed for deep cleaning and effective removal of embedded dirt. The brushroll indicator light provides visual feedback, turning solid green when the brushroll is operating correctly and solid red if there is a jam, prompting the user to turn off the vacuum and clear the obstruction. Headlights on the motorized floor nozzle illuminate the cleaning path, making it easier to spot dust and debris in dimly lit areas.

Beyond upright cleaning, the Shark Rotator Lift-Away Speed excels in above-floor cleaning, offering two ways to extend reach. Users can either push the handle release latch to lift the handle off the wand for short-reach tasks or press the "Release Wand" button on the pod for a longer reach. This flexibility allows for easy attachment of various accessories to clean curtains, shelves, or other elevated surfaces. A crucial feature for above-floor and specialized cleaning is the Suction Control, located at the base of the top handle. This control allows users to adjust the suction power, sliding it towards "MIN" to decrease suction (useful for delicate fabrics or when experiencing resistance on thick carpets) and towards "MAX" to increase it for tougher cleaning jobs.

The "Lift-Away" mode is a standout feature, transforming the upright vacuum into a portable canister-style cleaner. By pressing the "LIFT-AWAY" button, the user can detach the pod from the floor nozzle, making it lightweight and easy to carry. This mode is particularly useful for cleaning stairs, upholstery, or other areas that require a more maneuverable vacuum. When in Lift-Away mode, the user can hold the pod in one hand while using the handle or wand with an attached accessory to clean. For even greater convenience, an optional caddy accessory can be used to convert the Rotator into a canister vacuum, allowing the pod to roll along while keeping cleaning tools close by. The caddy also features posts for storing additional cleaning accessories.

The vacuum comes with a range of compatible accessories to enhance its cleaning capabilities. These include a Pet Multi Tool, which combines a stiff bristle brush for stuck-on debris with an upholstery tool for pet hair; a Hard Floor Hero™ attachment, designed for effective cleaning of surface litter, stuck-on dust, and debris on hard floors; a Crevice Tool for extended reach into small spaces; and a Pet Power Brush, specifically designed to remove pet hair and ground-in dirt from carpeted stairs and upholstery. These tools can be attached to the wand or handle, depending on the cleaning task.

Maintenance features are designed to keep the vacuum operating at optimal suction power. Regular emptying of the dust cup is essential. This is done by lifting the dust cup off the pod using the release latches and then pressing the bottom dust-cup release latch to empty debris into a trash bin. For accessing the dust screen and removing built-up debris, there's a top dust-cup release latch. Filter cleaning is another critical maintenance task. The pre-motor foam and felt filters should be hand-washed with water every three months, and loose dirt should be tapped off between washes. The post-motor HEPA filter, accessed by pulling a latch under the grill, should be rinsed once a year. It's crucial to allow all filters to dry completely before re-inserting them to prevent liquid from entering electrical parts. The manual explicitly warns against using soap when cleaning the HEPA filter.

Checking for blockages is also part of the maintenance routine. Users are instructed to remove the dust cup, wand, and floor nozzle to inspect all intake openings. For the floor nozzle, tilting its neck back opens the brushroll garage door, allowing for the removal of blockages using a long object. The brushroll itself can be cleaned by pressing the "Brushroll Access" buttons to pop up the garage door, lifting the brushroll out, and removing any string, hair, or debris wrapped around it.

The vacuum is equipped with a motor-protective thermostat that automatically turns off the suction motor if the unit overheats. In such cases, the user must turn off and unplug the vacuum, empty the dust cup, clean the filters, check for blockages, and allow the unit to cool for a minimum of 45 minutes before restarting. This safety feature ensures the longevity of the motor. The design also includes cord hooks for convenient storage of the power cord and a cord clip on the wand to hold the cord in place during vacuuming. The upper cord hook can be rotated for quick cord access.
