Overview

The Sharper Image Ultrasonic Humidifier (Model UHT1-SI) is designed to humidify and circulate air in indoor living spaces in the United States and Canada. This product is not intended for commercial or industrial use.

Function Description:

The humidifier uses an ultrasonic disk to shatter water into a fine, visible mist, which is then guided by a mist tube to a rotating mist nozzle. This process adds moisture to the air, helping to alleviate dryness in small to medium-sized rooms. The device offers multiple operating modes, allowing users to select between high and low mist settings, with or without an optional night light. The power button, which is illuminated, serves as the primary control for cycling through these settings. An integrated low water indicator alerts the user when the water tank needs refilling by briefly flashing red, and the unit automatically powers off when water levels are too low to prevent damage.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Capacity: The water tank has a 0.4-gallon capacity.
  • Humidification Rate (High Mist Setting): Evaporates approximately 1.2 gallons of water (+/- 10%) in 24 hours of continuous operation, assuming room conditions of 70°F and 30% relative humidity.
  • Power Supply: The appliance may be equipped with a detachable external power supply (model GQ24-240100-AU).
  • Compliance: Tested and complies with CFR 47 Part 18 FCC Rules for Class B digital devices, ensuring reasonable protection against harmful interference in residential installations.
  • Safety Features: Polarized plug for reduced electrical shock risk, automatic shutoff for low water levels, and warnings against operating with solid-state speed devices (dimmer switches).

Usage Features:

  • Easy Filling: The water tank is designed for easy filling. To fill, the humidifier should be unplugged and placed on a level surface. The water tank is removed by grasping its handle and pulling it toward the user, then turned upside down to remove the cap (counterclockwise). After filling with cool tap water, the cap is replaced (clockwise), and the tank is lowered back into the base.
  • Mist Control: The illuminated touch power button allows users to cycle through five modes:
    • Mode 1: Humidifier on, high mist setting, no night light.
    • Mode 2: High mist setting with night light.
    • Mode 3: Low mist setting, no night light.
    • Mode 4: Low mist setting with night light.
    • Mode 5: Humidifier off.
  • Night Light: An optional LED night light illuminates in the base near the mist tube when selected in Mode 2 or Mode 4.
  • Rotating Mist Nozzle: The nozzle can be manually rotated 360 degrees to direct mist where needed most. It is also removable for cleaning.
  • Carry Handle: An integrated handle on top of the water tank facilitates easy lifting and carrying.
  • Water Type Recommendation: For areas with hard water or excessive minerals, using distilled water is recommended to reduce white dust and mineral buildup.
  • Additives Warning: The manufacturer explicitly states that additives such as aroma fragrances should not be used in the water tank or base, as they can cause cracks in the plastic and affect performance, thereby voiding the warranty.
  • Humidity Level Monitoring: Users are advised to turn off the humidifier if relative humidity exceeds 60% to prevent moisture buildup and potential mold/mildew growth. A hygrometer is recommended for accurate readings.

Maintenance Features:

  • Regular Cleaning: Proper cleaning is crucial for air quality and humidifier performance. It is recommended to clean the unit weekly, or when algae, mineral deposits, or other particles begin to form. If water is left in the tank for more than 8 hours when the unit is off, thorough cleaning and disinfection are required to prevent microorganism growth.
  • Cleaning Instructions:
    1. Turn off, unplug, and disconnect the adapter from the base.
    2. Remove and empty the water tank and any remaining water in the base.
    3. Rinse the mist tube (located inside the water tank) with clean tap water after removing the mist nozzle.
    4. Gently wipe down or clean the water tank with a mild detergent and rinse with clean tap water to remove impurities.
    5. Clean the base using a soft cloth or the included cleaning brush with a mild detergent and rinse with clean tap water. Do not submerge the base.
    6. Locate the ultrasonic disk in the center of the base and gently clean it with the provided cleaning brush only. Avoid scrubbing or scraping the disk with other tools.
    7. Wipe the outer surface of the unit with a soft, damp cloth as needed.
  • Storage: Before storing, the humidifier should be completely dry, with no water in the tank or base. The power cord should be unplugged and bundled loosely. Covering the unit or placing it back in its retail carton is recommended to prevent dust accumulation. Store in a cool, dry location. Cleaning is recommended before storage.
  • Cleaning Brush: A dedicated cleaning brush is included for effective cleaning of the base and ultrasonic disk.
