Why won't my Shindaiwa T450 start?
    • J
      Jill KimAug 12, 2025
Your Shindaiwa Trimmer might not start due to several reasons. The ignition switch might be in the “O” (OFF) position, so move the switch to “I” (ON) position. The spark plug could be loose, so tighten it and re-test. The fuel might be incorrect, stale, or contaminated, or the mixture might be incorrect, so refill with clean fresh unleaded gasoline with a pump octane of 87 or higher, mixed with Premium 2-cycle mixing oil at a 50:1 gasoline/oil ratio. Also, the plug may be fouled or improperly gapped; in that case, clean and re-gap the plug to 0.6 ~ 0.7 mm and re-start. If the plug is damaged internally or of the wrong size, replace it with a NGK BMR6A and re-start. Check for a clogged fuel filter and/or vent, and replace the fuel filter or vent as required, then restart.

      Cassandra ButlerAug 19, 2025
If your Shindaiwa Trimmer has low power output, consider these possibilities: You might be overworking the unit, so try cutting at a slower rate. The fuel ratio could be improper; refill with clean fresh unleaded gasoline with a pump octane of 87 or higher, mixed with Premium 2-cycle mixing oil at a 50:1 gasoline/oil ratio. The air cleaner element might be clogged, so clean or replace the air filter. The fan, fan cover, or cylinder fins might be dirty or damaged; clean, repair, or replace them as necessary. The spark plug could be loose or damaged, so tighten or replace the plug with a NGK BMR6A and re-start. There might be air leakage or a clogged fuel line, so repair or replace the fuel filter and/or fuel line.

      Richard GarciaAug 27, 2025
If your Shindaiwa Trimmer engine is knocking, it could be due to water in the fuel, so refill with a fresh fuel/oil mixture. It may also be due to improper fuel, so check the fuel octane rating and check for the presence of alcohol in the fuel, then refuel as necessary.
