Overview

The Siemens RDF310... and RDF410... series are semi-flush-mount room temperature controllers with LCD displays, designed for 2-pipe fan coil units and compatible with compressors in DX type equipment. These controllers are suitable for managing room temperature in individual rooms and zones that are heated or cooled by 2-pipe fan coil units or cooled by a single compressor in DX type equipment.

Function Description

The controllers acquire room temperature via a built-in sensor and maintain the setpoint by delivering 2-position valve control commands or compressor output commands. They offer flexible control over a 3-speed fan (automatic or manual) and either a valve actuator in a 2-pipe system or a 1-stage compressor in DX type equipment.

Key operating modes include:

  • Normal Operation: The controller maintains the setpoint, which can be adjusted via the + and - buttons. The fan speed can be set to automatic or manual (low, medium, or high). The setpoint range can be limited to a minimum (P05) and maximum (P06) to prevent energy waste.
  • Standby Mode: Relevant heating or cooling setpoints are maintained, adjustable via parameters P03 and P04. Factory setting for both setpoints is OFF, meaning the controller is not active in Standby mode.
  • Auto Timer Mode (RDF410.21 only): The controller automatically switches between Normal operation and Energy Saving mode based on 8 preprogrammed timers. The display shows the Auto Timer mode symbol and the current operating mode (Normal operation or Energy Saving mode). The default fan speed in Auto Timer mode is automatic.
  • Energy Saving Mode: Setpoints for this mode can be adjusted via control parameters P01 and P02.

The controllers support manual heating/cooling changeover, or can be configured for continuous cooling only or heating only. An "always on" ventilation feature can be activated to prevent damage due to moisture in warm and humid climates by keeping the fan running at minimum speed 1 in the dead zone (P20).

Usage Features

The LCD display shows either the acquired room temperature or the setpoint of the current operating mode (selectable via P18). Heating and cooling symbols indicate the status of the fan coil, even in the neutral zone. Temperature and setpoint can be displayed in °F or °C (P17).

For the RDF410.21, an Auto Timer mode with 8 programmable timers allows for scheduled changes between Normal operation and Energy Saving mode. Each timer has a Normal operation start and end time, applicable to several weekdays. The 7-day time clock supports both 12-hour and 24-hour formats.

The RDF310.21 and RDF410.21 models include an infrared receiver, allowing remote control via the IRA210 infrared remote control (ordered separately). Remote functions include selecting operating mode (Standby, Normal operation, Auto Timer), adjusting the setpoint in Normal operation, and selecting fan mode (automatic or manual). A buzzer confirms receipt of remote commands. The infrared receiver can be disabled via parameter P25.

Maintenance Features

  • Parameter Settings: A number of control parameters can be readjusted to optimize control performance. These parameters can be set during operation without opening the unit and are maintained in the event of a power failure.
  • Parameter Reset: Factory settings for control parameters can be reloaded.
  • Sensor Calibration: If the displayed room temperature does not match the actual room temperature, the sensor can be recalibrated by changing parameter P07.
  • Power Failure Handling: In case of power failure, the internal clock stops but stores its last running time. This information is reloaded upon power-up, and the clock flashes until confirmed or readjusted.
  • Error Handling: If the room temperature is outside the measuring range (0-49 °C), the display shows the limiting temperature flashing. The controller will resume Normal operation once the temperature returns to the measuring range.
