Under normal conditions, only non-conductive pollution occurs. Occasionally, pollution may become

Igniting voltage:
Voltage at which one of the two thyristors is ignited. This is triggered by means of a BOD element (break-
over diode).
Maximum power pulse current:
Current that can flow at the start of a decay process (as in Fig. 1). The actual limit value depends on the
current waveform (time constant).
Critical voltage gradient:
Maximum voltage rise, which must not be exceeded, between terminals C and D per time interval.
Critical current gradient:
Maximum current rise, which must not be exceeded, per time interval.
