Problem _
2. Engine starts hard or runs poorly.
3. Engine knocks.
4. Excessive oil consumption.
5. Engine exhaust is black.
6. Engine runs, but tractor will not drive.
7. Tractor drive belt slips.
_ Cause/Remedy _
Fuel mixture too rich. Clean air filter. Check choke adjustment
(engine speed control). See engine manual.
Carburetor adjusted incorrectly. See engine manual.
Spark plug(s) faulty, fouled, or incorrectly gapped. Clean and gap
or replace. See engine manual. _
Low oil level. Check/add oil as required.
Using wrong grade oil. See engine manual _
Engine running too hot. Clean engine fins, blower screen and air
cleaner.
Using wrong weight oil. See engine manual.
Too much oil in crankcase. Drain excessive oil.
Dirty air filter. Clean air filter. See engine manual.
Check engine speed control adjustment (choke).
See engine manual.
Transmission control lever in neutral. Shift in forward or reverse.
Transmission release lever in “push” position. Move into drive position.
Belt is broken. See "Drive Belt Replacement”.

Drive belt slips. (See problem and cause below.) _
Clutch is out of adjustment. See your dealer.
Pulleys or belt greasy or oily. Clean as required.
Belt stretched or worn. Replace with correct belt.
Idler pulley pivot bracket “froze” in declutched position. Remove
idler pulley, clean and lubricate.
