Setting
up
your
wireless
network
We've
designed your
Sky
Broadband wireless connection
to
be
as
secure
as
possible.
It
uses
WPA,
the latest type
of
secure encryption technology
available.
You
need your
SSID
and Wireless
Network
Key
to
log
on,
so
even
if
you
live
in
a
very
built-up area,
it
is
extremely difficult
for
other people
to
access
your
Sky
Broadband.
You
can
unplug your computer
from
the
Sky
wireless router
now
,
as
you
do
not
need
to
be
plugged
in
to
set
up
your wireless connection.
There's
no
need
to
reboot
your
computer.
Here's
how
to
set
up
your
wireless
network:
1.
To
begin
, open the wireless network connection manager
on
your
computer,
by
clicking
on
the wireless
icon
-either
on
your
desktop,
or
in
your
Control
Panel
or
Network
Settings.
The
wireless
icon
on
your desktop
will
usually resemble one
of
these:
~
-
((r)
Q))
2.
You
may
be
asked
by
your computer whether
you
are connecting
through
WPA
or
WEP
security
protocol.
Choose
WPA
.
If
your
computer
only
supports
WEP
encryption, see pages 12-13
to
switch
your
Sky
wireless router
to
WEP.
3. Whether
you
are using the built-in wireless capability
you
already
have,
your
own
wireless adapter
or
the
Sky
wireless adapter,
you
will
need your personal wireless settings.
You
will
find
these
on
a sticker
underneath your
box
and also
on
a 'keep
me
handy'
card
. There are
two settings:
SSID
-
SKY+
5 numbers, e.
g.
SKY
12345
Network
Key
- 8 uppercase letters, e.g.
SKYABCDE
4. Depending
upon
your computer,
you
will
be
prompted
to
enter either
or
both
of
these settings
to
log
on
to
your secure wireless network,
5.
Once
you
have
completed this process,
keep
your card
in
your
Sky
Set-Up
Guide
for
future reference.
Your
PC
or
laptop
should
now
be
set
up
to
work without
wires
or
cables.
If
this
doesn't
work
you
probably
need
to
set
up
your
wireless
connection
using
the
WEP
settings
over
the
page
.
NOTE
:
The
exact
set
up
procedure
varies
depending
on
the
wireless
adapter
device
you
are
using
.
In
all
cases,
you
will
need
to
ensure
that
the
wireless
adapter
software
has
been
instafled
on
the
computer
you
want
to
use
wirele
s
sfy.
