Overview

This document describes a refrigerator-freezer appliance, focusing on its functions, usage, and maintenance.

General Description

The appliance is a refrigerator-freezer designed for domestic use, suitable for refrigerating and conserving fresh and frozen foods. It features separate compartments for refrigeration and freezing, controlled by a thermostat. The interior is illuminated when the door is opened. The appliance is not intended for professional or commercial use, nor is it designed to operate with external timers or remote-control systems. It can be used in various domestic and similar environments, such as staff kitchen areas, farmhouses, hotels, motels, bed and breakfast establishments, and catering applications.

Function Description

The appliance's primary function is to preserve food through refrigeration and freezing.

  • Freezer Compartment (1): This section is dedicated to storing frozen foods, freezing fresh foods, and producing ice cubes.
  • Fan (2): The fan distributes temperature evenly throughout the refrigerator compartment and helps reduce condensation on shelves and other surfaces. The forced air recirculation system quickly dries food inside and maintains homogeneous refrigeration.
  • Interior Lighting (3): Provides illumination inside the appliance when the door is opened.
  • Refrigerator Compartment (4): Used for storing fresh foods.
  • Super-cold Drawer (5): This drawer is designed to maintain freshness and flavor of delicate foods like meat, fish, and lightly frozen foods for extended periods, keeping temperatures consistently between -2°C and +3°C. It is not suitable for freezing food or making ice.
  • Fruit and Vegetable Drawer (6): Located at the bottom of the refrigerator compartment, this drawer is fitted with a glass shelf and is designed for storing fruit and vegetables, maintaining a constant humidity level to keep them fresh.
  • Freezer Door (7): Provides access to the freezer compartment.
  • Thermostat (8): Allows users to set the desired temperature for both the refrigerator and freezer compartments.
  • Fridge Door (9): Provides access to the refrigerator compartment.

Usage Features

The appliance offers several features to enhance usability and food preservation.

  • Temperature Setting: The thermostat knob allows users to adjust the temperature from a minimum setting to a maximum of 5, depending on the desired temperature. Increasing the setting from minimum to 5 decreases the temperature in the refrigerator compartment.
  • Shelves: These can be positioned at different heights according to user requirements. Each shelf has a safety fitting to prevent accidental removal. To extract them, lift the rear part and then remove. Perishable foods should be placed at the rear of the shelves where the temperature is lower.
  • Door Balconies and Shelves: Suitable for storing eggs, butter, dairy products, preserves, and other small food packages/containers. The lower part of the door includes a shelf specifically for bottles. Users should avoid placing excessively heavy bottles and ensure they do not drop when inserted.
  • Freezer Drawers: For storing frozen foods and foods to be frozen. To remove them, pull them forward and lift the front part.
  • Arranging Food: Food should be arranged on shelves, wrapped, and hermetically covered to preserve flavor, moisture, and freshness, and to prevent contamination from odors.
  • Freezing Food: For proper freezing, fruit and vegetables should be packed in portions of no more than 1 kg, and meat and fish in portions of up to 2 kg. Small packages freeze quickly, preserving nutritional properties. Foods should be packaged in hermetically sealed containers, expelling as much air as possible. Suitable freezer bags/containers should be used instead of paper or shopping bags. Hot foods and drinks must be cooled to room temperature before being placed in the appliance.
  • Door Open Alarm: If the appliance door is left open for an extended period, a sound and visual signal (flashing interior lights) will alert the user to close the door.
  • Ventilation: Before introducing food, it should be sealed thoroughly. The forced air recirculation system quickly dries food inside and maintains homogeneous refrigeration.
  • Storage Advice:
    • Always check expiry dates on food packaging.
    • Foodstuffs should be stored in closed or pre-packaged containers to prevent moisture and odor exchange.
    • Perishable products should be removed if the appliance will be unused for a long period.
    • Refrigerator Compartment Door: Eggs, butter, cheese in upper/central parts; drinks, bottles, cans in the lower part.
    • Refrigerator Compartment: Preserves, wine, biscuits in the upper part; dairy products, ready meals, pastries, fruit juices, beer in the central part; meats, cold cuts in the lower part; fresh and tropical fruit, vegetables, carrots, potatoes, onions in the fruit and vegetable drawer.
    • Freezer Compartment: Mark food type, quantity, and freezing date on containers. Use small, pre-packaged containers.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance ensures the appliance's aesthetic and functional qualities.

  • Cleaning the Appliance:
    • Outside: Can be cleaned with water or alcohol-based liquid detergents (e.g., window cleaning products). A soft brush should be used to remove dust and fume deposits from the condenser at the rear. The tank above the compressor should also be cleaned. Aggressive detergents and rough sponges should be avoided to prevent surface damage.
    • Inside: Clean with diluted liquid detergent and warm water, with a little vinegar. The door balconies and shelves can be removed by tapping them upwards. Remove any ice thicker than 3-5 mm without using sharp objects or spray products.
    • Antibacterial Protection: The interior walls have a special antibacterial protection to prevent bacterial growth, but regular cleaning is still necessary.
  • Defrosting:
    • Refrigerator Compartment: Defrosting is automatic. Any ice forming on the refrigeration plate melts when the compressor switches off. Defrost water is channeled to a dedicated pan at the back, where it evaporates using the heat from the compressor.
    • Freezer Compartment: Occasional frost is normal. Electrical appliances (e.g., hair dryers) or sprays should not be used for defrosting, as they can damage plastic parts.
  • Interior Lighting: If damaged, the interior lighting must only be repaired by Technical Service.
  • Turning the Appliance Off: For long periods of disuse, switch off the appliance, unplug it, empty compartments, and dry any residual moisture after the freezer has fully defrosted. Leave the door ajar to prevent unpleasant odors.

Troubleshooting

The manual provides guidance on common issues:

  • Appliance not working: Check if plugged in and main switch is on.
  • Compressor functions too often/continuously: Could be due to high room temperature, frequent/long door openings, improper door sealing, too many fresh foods in the freezer, insufficient air circulation around the refrigerator compartment sensor, or poor ventilation/dirty condenser at the back.
  • Excessive ice/condensation in refrigerator compartment: Caused by frequent/long door openings, hot foods placed inside, foodstuffs touching the rear wall, or a damaged/dirty door seal.
  • Refrigerator compartment not cold enough: Thermostat set too high, frequent/long door openings, improper door sealing, or high room temperature.
  • Refrigerator compartment too cold/food freezing: Thermostat set too low, foodstuffs not in suitable containers, wet fruit/vegetables, or food placed against the rear wall.
  • Freezer compartment not cold enough: Thermostat set too high, frequent/long door openings, improper door sealing, damaged/dirty door seal, or large quantities of sugary food.
  • Excessive ice in freezer compartment: Thermostat set too low, high room temperature, frequent/long door openings, improper door sealing, damaged/dirty door seal, or hot foods placed inside.
  • Doors hard to open after closing: Due to vacuum created by cooling warm air.
  • Misaligned doors: Check if the appliance is level and adjust feet if necessary.
