Overview

This document describes a Smeg refrigerator-freezer appliance, providing comprehensive instructions for its installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Function Description:

The appliance is a refrigerator-freezer designed for domestic or similar environments, including staff kitchen areas, farmhouses, hotels, motels, bed and breakfast establishments, and catering applications. It is specifically intended for the refrigeration and conservation of fresh and frozen foods. The appliance is not designed for professional or commercial use, nor for operation with external timers or remote-control systems. It features new-generation cooling technology that utilizes a fan to blow dry cold air evenly throughout both the refrigerator and freezer compartments, preventing humidity and ice build-up. This system ensures even and uniform cooling, and there is no air passage between the freezer and refrigerator compartments, which prevents the mixing of odors.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Climate Class: The appliance is designed to operate within specific ambient temperature ranges (T/SN = 10°C - 43°C) as stated on the information label. Different climate classes include:
    • SN (Subnormal): +10°C to +32°C
    • N (Normal): +16°C to +32°C
    • ST (Subtropical): +18°C to +38°C
    • T (Tropical): +18°C to +43°C
  • Freezer Shield Technology: Ensures that frozen food in the freezer will not defrost even if the ambient temperature falls as low as -15°C.
  • Electrical Connection: Operating voltage is 220-240 V at 50Hz. The appliance must be connected to ground in compliance with electrical system safety standards.
  • Refrigerant: Contains a small quantity of isobutane (R600a).
  • Maximum Freezing Capacity: The maximum amount of fresh food (in kilograms) that can be frozen within 24 hours is indicated on the appliance label.
  • Dimensions: The distance between the appliance and the back wall must be a maximum of 75 mm.
  • LED Lighting: The appliance is equipped with LED strip lights for illumination.

Usage Features:

  • Display and Control Panel: Features a display and control panel with indicators for freezer set value, refrigerator set value, economy mode, super freeze mode, and alarm.
  • Temperature Settings:
    • Freezer: Initial setting is -18°C. Can be adjusted to -16°C, -18°C, -20°C, -22°C, or -24°C. Economy mode is automatically activated when the freezer is set to -18°C.
    • Refrigerator: Initial setting is +4°C. Can be adjusted to +8°C, +6°C, +5°C, +4°C, or +2°C.
  • Super Freeze Mode: Activated by pressing and holding the freezer temperature setting button for 3 seconds. Designed for freezing large quantities of food quickly to retain freshness. Automatically cancels after 24 hours or when the freezer sensor temperature drops below -32°C.
  • Accessories (Model Dependent):
    • Ice Tray: For making ice cubes.
    • Icemaker: Allows for easy ice cube production and storage.
    • Freezer Box: Provides easier access to frozen food.
    • Chiller Shelf: Keeps food fresh for longer than standard refrigerator or freezer compartments, suitable for raw fish, lightly pickled food, rice, etc.
    • Fresh Dial: Located in front of the crisper, controls air and humidity to increase food life.
    • Adjustable Door Shelf: Offers six different height adjustments for flexible storage.
    • Adjustable Glass Shelf: Provides higher storage spaces with a simple movement.
    • Natural Ion Tech: Spreads negative ions to neutralize unpleasant smells and dust, improving air quality.
    • Maxi-fresh Preserver: Removes ethylene gas and unpleasant odors from the crisper, extending food freshness.
  • Food Storage Guidelines:
    • Store liquids in sealed containers to reduce humidity and frost formation.
    • Allow warm food to cool before placing it in the refrigerator.
    • Avoid direct contact between items and the rear wall to prevent frost.
    • Store raw meat and fish in suitable containers on the glass shelf above the vegetable bin.
    • Store loose fruit and vegetables in crisper containers, separated to prevent ethylene-sensitive vegetables from being affected.
    • Do not put wet vegetables into the refrigerator.
    • Follow maximum storage times for different food types (e.g., vegetables and fruits: 1 week; meat and fish: 2-3 days; fresh cheese: 3-4 days; butter and margarine: 1 week; bottled products: until expiry date; eggs: 1 month; cooked food: all shelves).
    • For freezer storage, wrap and seal fresh food properly in airtight packaging. Divide food into portions. Do not refreeze thawed food.
    • Recommended freezer temperature is -18°C or -20°C.
  • Installation:
    • Position the appliance on a firm, level surface, using adjustable feet if necessary.
    • Ensure sufficient space for door opening and drawer/shelf removal.
    • Avoid direct sunlight and heat sources. If near heat sources, use an insulation panel.
    • Maintain a minimum distance of 2 cm if installed near another refrigerator or freezer.
    • Leave the appliance standing vertically for at least two hours before first use.

Maintenance Features:

  • Defrosting: The refrigerator/freezer compartment features automatic defrosting. Defrost water is channelled to a vaporisation container at the back of the appliance.
  • Cleaning:
    • Outside: Clean with water or alcohol-based liquid detergents. Avoid abrasive or corrosive detergents and rough sponges. Use a soft brush to remove dust from the condenser at the rear of the appliance at least twice a year.
    • Inside: Clean with diluted liquid detergent and warm water, with a little vinegar. Ensure no water enters lamp housing or electrical components. Door balconies and shelves can be removed and cleaned by hand with soap and water (not in a dishwasher). Avoid sharp objects or spray products.
    • Maxi-fresh Preserver Filter: Must be cleaned once a year. Remove the back cover of the filter box, heat the filter in an oven at 65°C for 2 hours. Do not wash with water or detergent.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides a comprehensive guide to common issues (e.g., appliance not working, compressor functioning too often, excessive ice, insufficient cooling, noisy operation) and their solutions, including error codes displayed on the control panel.
  • After-Sales Service: For persistent problems or LED replacement, contact an authorized service center.
  • Disposal: The appliance must be disposed of separately from other waste, in accordance with European directives. Packaging materials are recyclable. When disposing of an old appliance, remove the door and leave shelves in place to prevent children from being trapped. Old fridges and freezers contain CFCs, requiring careful disposal.
