2. Slide battery from battery box to gain access to
terminal cables.
3. Observe and note cable positions on battery.
4. D isconnect cabies from battery terminals. Re¬
tain mounting bolts and nuts.
B. BATTERY INSTALLATION
1. Slide battery partially into battery housing.
2. Connect cables to battery terminals.
A\ CAUTION A
Cables must be connected to battery terminals
in the proper position as shown in Figure 4.26.
3. Slide battery into battery box.
4. Reinstall battery cover. Refer to Figure 4.25.
C. BATTERY SERVICE
1. Remove battery.
2. Using distilled water, refill cells as required to no
more than 3/16" above cell plates.
D. CHARGING BATTERY
A CAUTION A
Never attempt to charge battery while installed on the
Rear Engine Rider. Never use "BOOST" chargers on
the battery.
1. Remove battery.
2. Place battery in a well ventilated area on a level
surface.
3. Remove battery cell caps. Check fluid ievel of
each celi. Fill cells as required with distilled
waterto proper level. Referto4.5, C. BATTERY
SERVICE.
4. With cell caps removed, connect battery charger
to battery terminals. Red to positive (+) terminai
and black to negative (-) terminal.
5. Slow charge battery at 1 amp for 10 hours.
6. If battery will not accept charge or is partiaiiy
charged after 10 hours of charging at 1 amp,
replace with new battery, part number 6-0753.
E. B ATTERY STORAGE
If Rear Engine Rider is to be stored out of season
on its rear bumper, it is essential the battery be
removed and stored to prevent leakage of elec¬
trolyte (acid).
1. Remove battery.
2. Perform battery service.
3. Bring battery to fuli charge, if required.
4. Store battery in an area away from the Rear
Engine Rider on a wood surface. DO NOT
STORE BATTERY ON A CONCRETE SUR¬
FACE.
