This document is a "Key Information Guide" for the "Talking Thermostat" models VT1007, VT2007, and VT2207. It provides instructions and tips for operating and maintaining these thermostats.
Function Description:
The Talking Thermostat is a device designed to control heating and cooling systems in a building. Its primary function is to maintain a desired indoor temperature. A key feature, as suggested by its name, is its "talking" capability, which likely provides audible feedback for settings and alerts, making it accessible for a wider range of users. The guide covers various operational aspects, including setting the temperature, programming schedules, and managing alerts related to maintenance.
Usage Features:
General Operation:
- Model Identification: The guide starts by identifying the different models:
- VT1007: Single Stage Heat / Cool
- VT2007: 2 Stage Heat / Single Stage Cool / Heat Pump
- VT2207: 2 Stage Heat / 2 Stage Cool (NOT for Heat Pumps)
- Operation Keys: The thermostat features several keys for various functions:
- HELP: Used for custom messages and warranty information.
- REPORT: Displays indoor temperature, set point temperature, and reports alerts like "Check Filter," "Low Battery," and "Call For Service." When the "ALERT LIGHT" flashes, pressing REPORT will make the thermostat speak the alert message.
- UP/DOWN: Used to raise or lower the temperature setting.
- FUNCTION: A brief press backlights the display screen; holding it down reveals the revision number.
- PROGRAM ON/OFF: Turns the program on or off.
- WEEKDAY/WEEKEND: Used to change programs.
- DAY/TIME: Used to change the time and day of the week.
- RUN: Advances to the next step during programming.
- RESET: Has two primary functions:
- Escape Program Mode: Exits programming without saving changes.
- FFr (Escapes Faulty Operation): Corrects faulty operation caused by static discharge. This involves pressing NO and RESET together until the display disappears, then pressing RUN to accept the flashing indoor temperature when it reappears.
- Voice On/Off: The voice feature, which provides audible feedback when changing the setpoint temperature, can be activated or deactivated by holding the UP key (for ON) or DOWN key (for OFF) for 8 seconds.
- Quick Review of All Settings: To quickly review all settings (Filter, Service, UV Light, Cycle Rate, and 2nd Stage Differential), press and hold NO then WEEKEND. When FP or FH appears, press YES to view all current settings.
Temperature Control:
- Calibrating Indoor Temperature: To calibrate, press and hold the UP and DOWN keys until the INDOOR TEMPERATURE flashes. Release, then use UP or DOWN to adjust. Press RUN to finish. Calibration is limited to (+/-) 3°F / 2°C from the factory default and should only be done after the unit has run one complete cycle.
- Setting Cycle Rate: To set the cycle rate, press and hold UP and DOWN until INDOOR TEMPERATURE flashes. Release, then press BOTH again until "Cr1" appears. Use UP or DOWN to select the desired setting (Cr1 = 1 Degree, Cr2 = 2 Degrees, Cr3 = 3 Degrees). Press RUN to finish.
- Fahrenheit to Celsius Conversion: To change between Celsius and Fahrenheit, press and hold the YES and NO keys together for 6 seconds.
Advanced Heat Pump Features (VT2007 & VT2207):
- Activating Emergency Heat ("Eon"): On heat pump models, pressing and holding RUN and YES will send the thermostat into emergency or reserve heat. This also reduces the time delay between 1st and 2nd stage HEAT to 1 minute. To restore the default 8-minute delay, perform an "FFr" Reset (see page 4). The GAS/ELECTRIC SWITCH on the circuit board (below the battery holder) must be in the "E" (Electric) position for emergency heat.
- Reducing 2nd Stage Time Delay ("Eon"): When emergency heat is activated, the time delay between stages is reduced to 1 minute.
- Setting 2nd Stage Differential: This setting is the sum of the "Cycle Rate" and the "2nx" selected. To change, press and hold UP and DOWN until INDOOR TEMPERATURE flashes. Release, then press again until "Cr1" appears. Press and hold again until "2n2" appears. Use UP or DOWN to adjust, then press RUN. A table is provided to explain the different 2nd stage differential settings (2n0 to 2n8) and their effects on when the 2nd stage activates and deactivates relative to the 1st stage.
- For VT2007 and VT2207, when the thermostat is running in 2nd Stage, the HEAT and HI icons (or COOL and HI icons for VT2207 only) are displayed.
- To reduce the 8-minute delay between 1st and 2nd Stage, move the HEAT/COOL switch to OFF and then press and hold YES & RUN together for 10 seconds.
Locking Features:
- Locking Out Programmable Operation: To prevent accidental changes to programmed operation, press and hold NO and ON/OFF keys for 6 seconds. The thermostat will audibly say "OFF" when any program button is pressed. To unlock, repeat the process.
- Locking Out All Operations: To prevent unauthorized changes, press and hold YES and HELP keys until "OFF" is heard. This locks out all functions except the REPORT and HELP keys. To unlock, repeat until "ON" is heard.
Bypass Compressor Short Cycle Protector:
- If the cooling OFF and ON cycle is less than 5 minutes, the unit will activate a time delay, and "COOL" and "DELAY" will flash. To bypass this 10-minute delay, press and hold NO and FUNCTION keys for 8 seconds. "COOL" and "DELAY" will stop flashing.
