How to fix a Sony URX-P41D that does not turn on?

  If your Sony Microphone system is not turning on, ensure the batteries are inserted with the correct polarity. Replace low batteries with new ones. Clean any dirt from the battery terminals and the battery compartment with a cotton swab. If using battery power, make sure batteries are inserted and the power source is set to 'BATT ONLY'. If using the SMAD-P5, check that it is correctly connected to the camera or tuner and that the power supplies for the tuner and camera are correctly linked.

  If there is no sound from your Sony Microphone system, verify that the channel setting is the same on both the transmitter and tuner. Confirm that the transmitter is on and reduce the distance between the transmitter and tuner. Ensure the transmitter is set to microphone input, not line level. The compander mode setting must be the same on both devices. Check if the transmitter is muted and release it by pressing the POWER/MUTE button. Review the MUTE SETTING menu and audio output connector settings. If using the SMAD-P5, ensure the Analog/Digital switch is correctly set. For microphones connected to the MIC INPUT, configure the microphone setting in the MIC SELECT menu to match the microphone type.

  To resolve the issue of louder noise when connected with SMAD-P5 compared to the XLR-BMP conversion output cable on your Sony Microphone system, adjust the reference input level and reference recording level of the camcorder, or adjust the OUTPUT LEVEL on the tuner to set the appropriate audio level.

Why is the sound distorted on my Sony URX-P41D?

  If the sound from your Sony Microphone system is distorted, the attenuation level on the transmitter might be too low or set to 0. Adjust the attenuation so that the audio is not distorted. If the GAIN MODE menu is set to 15dB BOOST, change it to prevent distortion. Ensure the channel setting is the same on both the transmitter and tuner. Use headphones with a stereo mini jack. If the OUTPUT MODE menu of the tuner is set to HIGH GAIN, change it to NORMAL. If the distortion occurs when using a microphone connected to the MIC INPUT connector, configure the microphone setting in the MIC SELECT menu to match the microphone type.

  If the batteries in your Sony Microphone system are draining quickly, replace them with new ones. Use alkaline batteries instead of manganese batteries, as alkaline batteries have a longer lifespan. Be aware that batteries drain quickly under cold conditions.

  If the sound from your Sony Microphone system is weak, the attenuation level on the transmitter may be too high. Set the attenuation to an appropriate level. Also, check the volume on the amplifier or mixer and adjust it accordingly. Ensure the transmitter is set to microphone input, not line level. The compander mode setting should be the same on both the transmitter and tuner. Verify that the supplied cable and the connected device are correctly connected. If the sound is weak from a microphone connected to the MIC INPUT connector, adjust the level in the INPUT LEVEL menu to match the connected microphone.

Also, minimize interference from infrared communications or direct sunlight by placing the transmitter and tuner as close as possible. Ensure that the SYNC MODE menu setting is set to IR.
