Secondary Drying
You can modify the Secondary Drying setpoint, as well as the Post Heat Settings,
from the Secondary Drying menu.
The Secondary Drying setpoint allows the freeze-drying process to finish as quickly as
possible. If the product or shelf temperature reaches this temperature, the recipe will
skip the remaining Primary Drying steps and proceed to the Post Heat (Secondary
Drying) phase.
Notes: The Secondary Drying setpoint must be set higher (e.g., 10 to 15 °C) than your highest
recipe temperature to avoid inadvertent jumps to the Post Heat (Secondary Drying) phase.
These settings must be within the unit’s reasonable ability. Consult your unit specifications or
contact SP Service for more information.
The menu parameters are defined as follows:
Parameter Description
Secondary Setpoint
When the product or shelf temperature reaches the Secondary Drying
Setpoint, the unit will skip the remaining Primary Drying steps and advance to
the Post Heat phase. Use the
± key and the numeric keypad to change the
temperature setting in one-degree increments, up to ± 99 °C.
Post Heat Settings
These settings—temperature, time and vacuum—will be maintained after the
drying phase is complete. Use the
± key and the numeric keypad to change
the temperature setting in one-degree increments, up to ± 99 °C; the time in
five-minute increments, up to 1255 minutes per step; or to change the vacuum
setpoint in 10-degree increments, from 2540 to 0.
