Optional Features
Purge
Moisture may accumulate in the vacuum pump oil after an aggressive freeze-dry run,
resulting in poor vacuum control and pull-down. The Wizard 2.0’s purge function
allows you to clean the vacuum pump oil between runs, extending the life of the oil.
Note: Purging the vacuum pump oil is not an alternative to performing regular oil changes.
To activate the purge function:
1. Open the vacuum pump ballast valve. This will allow moisture to be forced out
during purging.
2. Press the Maintenance button and select the Manual Mode Settings menu.
3. Set the Purge option to 1.
4. Press the Vacuum button. With Purge set to 1, the system will automatically
isolate the vacuum pump from the rest of the system when the Vacuum
button is pressed.
5. The purging process takes approximately 1 hour, depending on the amount of
dissolved contaminants. To determine whether pump oil is adequately clean,
disable the vacuum pump and drain ~100 mL of oil into a clear container.
Visually inspect the oil for clarity. Continue purging, if necessary.
6. When the purging process is complete, close the vacuum pump ballast valve
and press the Vacuum button to disable the vacuum pump. The Purge option
setting will automatically reset to 0 on the Manual Mode Settings menu,
restoring the default functionality of the Vacuum button.
Note: Beginning an automatic cycle disables the purge function.
Pressure Rise (P-Rise)
If your freeze dryer is equipped with an optional isolation valve and P-Rise software,
you can use the P-Rise/Barometric Endpoint test to determine product dryness. The
P-Rise test closes the isolation valve and tracks the rise in pressure within the product
chamber.
Note: The P-Rise option requires factory installation with the semiauto isolation valve option.
To activate the P-Rise test:
1. Verify that you are in the Primary or Secondary Drying phase of a freeze-dry
cycle.
2. Press the F2 button.
3. Select Option 3 (P-Rise Test).
4. Press the F1 button to start.
