How to troubleshoot STA-RITE HN Water Pump motor that will not run?
    • C
      Caroline SimpsonJul 31, 2025
If the STA-RITE Water Pump motor won't run, ensure the disconnect switch is on. If that's not the problem, check for a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker and replace or reset it. Other potential causes include a defective starting switch (disconnect power before replacing it), loose or incorrectly wired wires at the motor (disconnect power and tighten the wiring), or dirty pressure switch contacts (disconnect power and file the contacts). Also, the capacitor voltage may be hazardous, so discharge the capacitor or consult a qualified electrician.

Why STA-RITE HN delivers water but does not shut off?
    • T
      Trevor FaulknerAug 9, 2025
If the STA-RITE Water Pump delivers water but doesn't shut off or cycles too frequently, disconnect power and adjust or replace the pressure switch. Close any open faucets. Clean the venturi, nozzle, or impeller if clogged. Drain the tank to the air volume control port if the standard pressure tank is waterlogged. Check all pipe connections for air leaks. Inspect foot valve connections and replace the foot valve if leaking. To address low air charge in a pre-charged tank, disconnect power, relieve pressure, and check air pressure at the valve stem. If it's less than the pressure switch cut-in setting (30-50 PSI), add air until it's 2 PSI less than the cut-in setting. Check the air valve for leaks and replace the core if needed.

Why STA-RITE HN Water Pump motor runs hot and overload kicks off?
    • J
      johnsondouglasAug 14, 2025
If the STA-RITE Water Pump motor runs hot and the overload kicks off, refer to the wiring instructions to ensure the motor is wired correctly. Check with the power company if the voltage is too low. If the pump cycles too frequently, install heavier wiring if the wire size is too small and refer to the section on too frequent cycling.

What to do if STA-RITE Water Pump does not deliver water to full capacity?
    • L
      Luis UnderwoodAug 20, 2025
If the STA-RITE Water Pump does not deliver water to full capacity, a deep well jet will be needed if your well depth to water is more than 25 feet. If steel piping is corroded or limed, replace it with plastic pipe where possible, otherwise with new steel pipe. Use larger piping if the current piping is too small in size. Backflush the well point or sink a new point if the existing one is packed.

Why is there air spurting from faucets with my STA-RITE HN?
    • C
      Christian BeltranAug 25, 2025
If you're experiencing air spurts from the faucets with your STA-RITE Water Pump, it may be picking up prime; when it has picked up prime, it should pump solid water with no air. Check the joints on the suction side of the pump for leaks using soapy water. If the well is gaseous, consult the factory about installing a sleeve in the well. If there is intermittent over-pumping of the well (water drawn down below the foot valve), lower the foot valve if possible, otherwise restrict pump discharge.

What to do if STA-RITE HN Water Pump motor runs but no water is delivered?
    • E
      Evelyn JohnsonNov 3, 2025
If your STA-RITE Water Pump runs but doesn't deliver water, in a new installation, re-prime according to instructions. Check all connections on the suction line, AVC, and ejector for air leaks using soapy water or shaving cream. Replace the foot valve or check valve if necessary. If the installation is already in use, check all connections on the suction line and shaft seal. Lower the suction line into the water and re-prime. If the water level in the well exceeds 25 feet, a deep well pump is needed. Also, clean the foot valve or strainer if plugged, as well as the ejector or impeller. Replace a stuck check valve or foot valve. Thaw pipes if they are frozen. Bury pipes below the frost line, heat the pit or pump house, and raise the foot valve and/or strainer above the bottom of the water s...
