Intrinsically safe circuits
Distance between the connecting parts for intrinsically safe and non-intrinsically safe cir-
cuits
Provide a distance of 50 mm around the non-metallic insulating (1 mm) or earthed
metal (0.45 mm) separating plate between the connection points of intrinsically safe
and non-intrinsically safe circuits. The separating plates must have an appropriate
comparative tracking index (CTI) and must be reinforced in such a way that no
deformation can occur.
Terminal blocks in Ex e enclosure
Installation of additional components in the Ex d enclosure results in new
values for the power dissipation (see table "Power dissipation and
temperature class" in chapter "Technical data"). Extension of the Ex d
enclosure requires a repeated certification or evaluation by the manufacturer!
WARNING
Risk of electric shock (short circuit) due to incorrectly dimensioned or routed
cables and conductors!
Non-compliance can result in severe or fatal injuries.
Use only insulated cables and conductors with a testing voltage of at
least 500 V AC and a minimum quality of H05.
Make sure that the diameter of individual conductors and individual
finely stranded wires must not be smaller than 0.1 mm.
Conductors and cables must be routed at a minimum distance of 8 mm
between Ex i and Ex e electric circuits. Exception: The cores are
protected by an earthed shield.
Observe the following when working on terminal blocks:
Observe the test certificate of the terminals.
Terminal bridging is only permitted if original Ex accessories are used.
If necessary, retrofit required partitions.
For additional splice protection, use core end sleeves or cable lugs.
Make sure that the cross section of the splice protection matches the
conductor cross section.
