Replace torn starter rope
N Undo the nuts (1)
N Remove the starter cover (2)
N Remove the spring clip (3)
N Remove the washer (4)
N Remove the pawl (5)
N Remove the rope rotor (6)
N Lever the rope out of the starter
handle with a screwdriver
N Remove the remainder of the rope
from the rotor and starter handle
Versions without ElastoStart
N Thread the new starter rope through
the starter handle and secure it by
making one of the special knots
shown
N Pull the knot into the starter handle
Versions with ElastoStart
N Thread a new ElastoStart starter
rope from top to bottom through the
starter handle and
N Press the remaining rope into the
handle until the nipple is flush with
the handle
N Thread the starter handle with the
starter rope from top to bottom
through the rope guide bush (arrow)
N Thread the rope through the rotor
and secure it in the rotor with a
simple overhand knot
N Slip the rope rotor (6) on to the
starter post and turn it back and
forth a little until the anchor loop of
the rewind spring engages
N Fit the pawl (5) in the rope rotor
