Condition Cause Remedy
Engine does not deliver full power
or runs erratically
Secondary air seepage through
leaking gaskets or hairlne cracks in
spacer flange
Inspect spacer flange for cracks,
replace if necessary; install new
gaskets
Valves open too early or too long –
valve timing incorrect or valve
clearance too small
Set valve timing correctly or check
valve clearance and readjust if
necessary
Decompression lever sticking Install new cam wheel
Muffler / spark arresting screen
carbonized
Clean the muffler (inlet and
exhaust), replace if necessary
Air filter dirty Check the air filter and replace if
necessary
Fuel suction hose kinked or torn Fit new fuel suction hose or position
it free from kinks
Piston rings worn or broken Install new piston rings
Engine overheating Insufficient cylinder cooling,
air inlets in fan housing or air slots
in shroud blocked,
cylinder cooling fins heavily soiled
Thoroughly clean all cooling air
openings and the cylinder fins
