not touch!
6.1 Checking the oil filling level
and adding engine oil
The engine is designed for
commercially available 4-stroke engine
oils.
STIHL recommends using the following
engine oils:
SAE 30
SAE 10W-30
The oil grade must be matched to the
ambient temperature where the STIHL
gardening power tool will be used:
Operation at temperatures above 4 °C:
SAE 30
Operation at temperatures below 4 °C:
SAE 10W-30
Oil capacity:
Initial filling 1,2 litres
Oil change 1,0 litres
Park the STIHL gardening power tool
on a flat surface and stop the engine.
Clean the area around the oil dipstick.
Unscrew oil dipstick (1) and wipe clean.
Insert oil dipstick (1) in the filler neck –
do not screw in.
Then remove the oil dipstick again and
read off the oil filling level on measuring
scale (2).
If necessary, add engine oil until it
reaches the maximum oil filling level.
Use a suitable funnel.
Reinsert oil dipstick (1) and wipe up any
spilled oil.
6.2 Fuel
The engine is approved for unleaded
petrol. Unleaded petrol burns with fewer
residues, reduces deposits on the spark
plug and extends the service life of the
exhaust system.
Requirements for the fuel:
Fresh, clean and unleaded petrol
Rating of at least 90 octane
Maximum ethanol content 10% (E10).
STIHL recommends STIHL MotoPlus.
This fuel is virtually free of benzene,
sulphur and toxic aromatics.
Tank capacity and refilling:
See instruction manual for the STIHL
gardening power tool.
Fire hazard!
Never refill the tank when
the engine is running or
heated to a very high tem-
perature. Petrol is highly
flammable and produces
explosive vapours.
Danger of poisoning!
Avoid inhaling exhaust
gases. Engine exhaust
gases contain poisonous
carbon monoxide as well as
other pollutants.
Danger of burns!
Do not touch hot surfaces.
Engine components, espe-
cially manifolds and
mufflers, can become
extremely hot.
6. Preparing the machine for
operation
2
Avoid damage to the machine!
The engine is delivered without
engine oil. It must therefore be filled
with engine oil before being used
for the first time.
Exceeding or falling below the
permissible oil filling level can result
in damage to the engine.
Avoid damage to the machine!
STIHL recommends always using
fresh, good quality fuel and never
using petrol with an oil additive (2-
stroke mixture). Do not use stale or
contaminated fuel. Avoid
contaminating the tank contents
with dirt and water. Do not use
unapproved petrol like E85.
Change the petrol brand if you hear
knocking or ringing. If necessary,
contact your specialist dealer;
STIHL recommends STIHL
specialist dealers.
