Overview

The SuperHandy Electric Powered Hydraulic Log Splitter is a robust and efficient tool designed for splitting logs. Its primary function is to convert hydraulic pressure into linear force, allowing users to split wood with ease and precision. This log splitter is intended solely for splitting wood and should not be used for any other purposes unless specific attachments and instructions are provided by the manufacturer.

Usage Features:

Operating the log splitter requires careful adherence to safety guidelines and proper procedures to ensure safe and effective use. Before any operation, it is crucial to read and fully understand the Operator's Manual. The device is designed for single-person operation, meaning only one individual should operate the log splitter and load logs. If a helper is assisting with loading, ensure they are clear of the area before actuating controls.

The log splitter features an electric start, simplifying the ignition process. The control valve handle allows for precise control over the movement of the thrust plate, enabling the user to extend and retract the hydraulic cylinder as needed. When loading logs, users must hold them on the sides, keeping hands and feet clear of the cylinder, wedge, and any partially split logs. It is imperative never to place hands or any part of the body between a log and any part of the log splitter. Logs should always be split with the grain, never perpendicular to it. For ram-type log splitters, avoid attempting to split more than one log at a time unless the ram is fully retracted and a second log is needed to complete the splitting of the first log. If logs are not squared, the longest portion should be rotated down, and the most squared end placed against the ram. The controls should only be operated by hand; never kick the handle with your feet.

The log splitter is equipped with 8-inch wheels and a handle, making it easy to move around the work site by hand. It is explicitly stated that the product is not intended to be towed behind any vehicle. Any modification to allow movement by other means than by hand will void all warranties. The support leg ensures stability during operation. The device must always be operated on a flat, level surface, and the tires should be blocked, and the support leg secured to prevent unintended movement.

Users must always wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including safety goggles or glasses with side shields, a full face-shield if necessary, full ear protection, safety shoes or work boots, and nonslip, heavy-duty protective gloves. Loose-fitting clothing, dangling drawstrings, or jewelry should be avoided as they can become entangled in moving parts. Long hair should be tied up.

The log splitter should never be left unattended while the electromotor is running. It is crucial to keep children and untrained adults away from the machine. Operation under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medication is strictly prohibited. The operation zone and adjacent areas must be kept clear to ensure safe and secure footing.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is essential for the longevity and safe operation of the log splitter. Before performing any repairs or adjustments, the power source must always be shut off, unless specifically recommended otherwise by the manufacturer. Debris should be cleared from movable parts only when the power source is off.

Periodically, and before each use, all nuts and bolts should be checked to ensure they are tight and the equipment is in safe working condition. Electromotor vibration can cause screws and bolts to loosen over time.

Hydraulic fluid levels are critical for proper operation. The log splitter requires hydraulic oil (AW32, AW46). For safety reasons, hydraulic oil is not included in the package and must be added before first use. To check the hydraulic oil level, insert the dipstick into the fill neck until it stops, then remove and read the level. Do not thread the dipstick in when checking. The log splitter must be on a flat, level surface when checking or adding oil. If the outdoor temperature is below 32°F, Dexron III transmission fluid can be used. After adding oil, the electromotor should be started, and the cylinder extended and retracted several times to purge air from the hydraulic system, ensuring smooth and continuous motion. Hydraulic oil can be added if the cylinder thrust is insufficient.

High fluid pressures are present in the hydraulic system, and caution must be exercised. Never remove the hydraulic oil fill cap when the electromotor is running or hot, as hot oil can escape and cause severe burns. Always allow the log splitter to cool completely before removing the cap. The hydraulic system should be regularly inspected for possible leaks. Leaks can be detected by passing cardboard or wood over the suspected area, looking for discoloration. Never check for leaks with bare hands while the system is pressurized. If injured by escaping fluid, immediate medical attention is necessary.

The power cord should be protected from heat, oil, sharp edges, or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock. The power tool plugs must match the outlet, and no adapter plugs should be used with earthed (grounded) power tools. The log splitter should not be exposed to rain or wet conditions. If operating outdoors, an extension cord suitable for outdoor use should be used. In damp locations, a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) protected supply is recommended.

The log splitter should not be exposed to excessive moisture, dust, or dirt. When not in use, it should be covered with a tarp or stored in a shed. Cooling vents must not be blocked by any material. The product should not be used if the electromotor sparks, smokes, or flames, or if the equipment vibrates excessively, or if hydraulic fluid is leaking. Tampering with or modifying the factory pressure settings of the pump or valve will void the product warranty.
