7.3 Lighting the fire for the first time
When lighting the fire for the first time and also when the fire has not been used for a long time, use only a little fuel
(all the materials need time to adjust to heat). Unpleasant fumes may be released due to the evaporation of paint
or grease; all that is required is to ventilate the room a little.
7.4 Control of primary air
Heat output is determined by controlling the air supply. However, pay attention to
the positions referred to the following table, according to the fuel used.

Control is effected as shown in the diagram at the side.
If a hard, shiny layer of tar forms in the combustion chamber or is noticed on the
inside of the door it means that combustion and gas consumption are not occurring
correctly: the air intake needs to be increased and the humidity level of the wood
should be checked.
Obviously, the positions shown below refer to nominal output. Since output also
depends on atmospheric and climatic conditions and on the resultant draught,
experience will teach you how to choose the most suitable position.

Should lower output be required, choose a lower position that that given, that is to
say, push the controls further towards the minimum position.
ATTENTION: opening the controls too far (resulting in an excessive influx of air)
and stoking the stove with more fuel than is shown in the table above, will certainly
cause an increase in the heat given out by the stove; however it will reduce the
stove’s efficiency (with the higher fuel consumption) and an increase in the
temperatures may cause damage to the stove and to the structure of the
building for which the GRUPPO PIAZZETTA S.p.A.company declines all
responsability.
