The Swegon CASA® Smart cooker hood, available in Blues, Salsa, Samba, Tango, and Jazz models, plays a central role in home ventilation systems, efficiently and quietly removing cooking odors. Designed with user comfort in mind, these hoods feature smooth, easy-to-clean surfaces and maintenance-free LED lamps (4000 K).
Function Description:
The cooker hood is designed to control ventilation units equipped with Swegon Smart control technology or a power roof ventilator with an EC-fan. It manages the kitchen's general ventilation, ensuring that excess extract air does not create negative pressure in the home when connected to a Smart ventilation unit. The hood's damper control allows for continuous open periods of 30, 60, or 120 minutes, with an option for a 10-hour open period for summer cooling (not recommended during heating season). The lighting output is adjustable, with a factory default of 75%, and can be regulated by a long press of the lighting button.
Control Technology:
The cooker hoods feature a touch panel (except Tango models, which use side-mounted buttons) for controlling both the hood and the ventilation unit. Signal lamps on the panel are dimmed automatically when not in use.
- Fan Speed Selection: Users can select Away, Home, or Boost operating modes. The Boost speed is preset for 60 minutes before returning to Home speed.
- Fan Speed Indication: Lamps indicate the fan speed (Away, Home, Boost).
- Damper Control: The damper can be set to open for 30, 60, or 120 minutes, or 10 hours.
- Open Damper Time Indication: Signal lamps indicate the selected open period.
- Cooker Hood Lighting Control: On/off control with adjustable brightness.
SMART Ventilation Unit Functions:
- Away or Boost mode's lamp lit slightly: Indicates the Smart function is controlling ventilation. Users can override with the fan speed selector.
- All lamps flashing: Signifies a serious malfunction; contact service.
- Fan speed indication lamps flashing: Indicates a service requirement. Acknowledge by pressing the fan speed selector for 5 seconds after service.
- Away mode lamp flashing: The unit is shut off and can be started by pressing the fan speed selector.
Installation:
All cooker hoods require an external power source, which also serves as the main power switch. The wall socket for connection should be easily accessible. A double wall socket is needed if a Jazz hood is installed directly under a CASA Smart ventilation unit. The cooker hood connects to a Smart control technology ventilation unit via a modular cable. If routed within a building element, the cable must be in a Ø 20 mm conduit for potential future replacement. Installation, adjustment, and commissioning must adhere to local directives, considering the entire residence's ventilation. The cooker hood should only connect to a chimney conforming to regulations, and in high-rise blocks, property company permission is required.
Commissioning:
- Basic Air Flow Setting: Achieved by opening existing holes in the damper (all holes are sealed on delivery). Refer to the control curve in the "Technical data" section. Air flow is measured by pressure differential across the control damper.
- Boosted Ventilation Air Flow: Measured via the damper hole, which can then be sealed with extra plugs.
- Ventilation Balance: Automatic when connected to a Smart ventilation unit, preventing negative pressure.
- Operation with Power Roof Ventilator: Swegon CASA cooker hoods can control EC-fan equipped power roof ventilators. The control cable connects using a supplied connector. Default factory setting is a three-speed boost function (Away = 2 V, Home = 5 V, Boost = 8 V). The OFF position can be programmed from the cooker hood.
Commissioning the OFF position:
- Long press both the fan speed selector and damper control buttons (+) simultaneously until the center signal lamp for speed indication is on.
- Select OFF position (flashing LED) using fan speed selector and damper control buttons (right-hand lamp flashes for OFF, left-hand lamp flashes for ON).
- Acknowledge by long pressing the lighting button.
Setting Power Roof Ventilator Speed:
- Press and hold the speed selector and lighting (+) simultaneously for about five seconds.
- Select the mode using the fan speed selector button. Fan speeds must be set from low to high (e.g., Away cannot be higher than Home).
- Increase/reduce control voltage with the lighting button and damper control button, respectively. The selected voltage is indicated by lamp status (Not lit, Short flash, Long flash, Lit, corresponding to 1V-10V).
- Acknowledge settings by pressing the lighting button for about five seconds. If not acknowledged within ten minutes, settings are not saved, and the cooker returns to normal mode.
Important Technical Specifications:
- Safety Clearance: Minimum 400 mm (recommended 500 mm) for electric cookers, 650 mm for gas hobs. Consult local authorities or cooker manufacturer.
- Power Source: 24 V, 12 W, 0.5 A (Blues, Samba, Salsa, Tango); 24 V, 24 W, 1 A (Jazz); 24 V, 20 W, 0.83 A (Hood + Safera Safety stove guard).
- Lighting Effect: 8 W for all models.
- Total Output: 12 W (Blues, Samba, Salsa, Tango); 24 W (Jazz); 20 W (Hood + Safera Safety stove guard).
- Odour Capture Capacity: Tested to IEC 61591:2005 (Tango 70 tested with 30 mm rear cover plate). Measurements are made at a distance of 60 cm from the cooker.
- Acoustic Data: Tested to ISO 5135 Standards. Pressure drop (Pa) vs. Airflow rate (l/s) curves are provided for Blues | Samba | Jazz, Salsa, and Tango models, indicating LWA values (LWA=20, LWA=30, LWA=40, LWA=50).
Accessories:
- External Control Functions:
- Ext out: Damper setting signal (max 30 V, 5 A).
- 5 V / (24 V) out: 5 V voltage output, max. 200 mA (for Safera).
- Ext in: Control of hood's damper and lighting (for Safera).
- AO: Control signal to Twist fan unit or EC-power roof ventilator (0-10 VDC).
- Ext module: Not used.
- Control: Control cable to ventilation unit or ILVA transformer unit (RJ9-connector).
- Safera Safety Technology: The Safera cooker guard accessory connects easily to Smart cooker hoods, powered by the hood. It opens the damper and switches on lighting when the stove is in use, and closes the damper and switches off lighting after a brief airing period (few minutes to 45 minutes). Blues hoods can also be fitted with a fire extinguishing unit with an integrated Safera Siro cooker guard. Safera products have a warranty for material and manufacturing faults.
- Twist Fan Unit (TTEC): A fan unit for cooker hoods and house ventilation, controlled by a Swegon CASA Smart cooker hood. Features an energy-efficient EC-direct current fan. Requires separate power supply cables, thus a double wall socket.
- ILVA Transformer Unit (ITFC): Allows control of transformer technology ventilation units or three-speed power roof ventilators with all Swegon CASA cooker hoods.
- Ext Out-Relay for 230 V (CHR): An external relay can control 230 V external devices based on the damper's position signal.
Maintenance Features:
- Regular Cleaning: Cooker hood and grease filter should be cleaned regularly to maintain odor capture capacity and prevent fire risk.
- Surfaces: Clean with a damp cloth and mild washing-up liquid. Avoid polish or solvents.
- Grease Filter: Clean about twice per month by hand in warm water. Dishwasher cleaning may alter the filter's surface color.
