Maintenance and Storage
Changing Engine Oil
Change engine oil initially after the first 20 hours, and every 50 from then on.
1. To assure rapid and complete draining, engine oil should be drained while the engine is warm.
2. Remove the oil drain plug and washer, along with the oil filler cap and drain the oil.
3. Reinstall the drain plug and washer and secure tightly.
4. Refill with the recommended oil, check oil level, and secure oil filler cap.
Air Cleaner Maintenance
A dirty air filter will restrict air flow to the engine. To prevent engine malfunction, service the air cleaner
regularly. Perform maintenance more frequently when operating the generator in extremely dusty areas.
Never run the generator without the air filter.
1. Remove air filter cover, and remove the air filter element.
2. Wash the air filter element in a solution of detergent and warm water. Rinse thoroughly, and allow
the air filter element to dry thoroughly.
3. Soak the air filter element in clean engine oil and squeeze out excess oil. If too much oil is left in
the air cleaner element, the engine will smoke during startup.
Spark Plug Maintenance
To ensure proper engine operation the spark plug should be periodically checked and replaced.
1. Remove the spark plug cap from around the plug.
2. Clean any dirt or debris from around the plug before removing.
3. Using a spark plug wrench, remove the spark plug.
4. Visually inspect for damage, and replace if fouled, cracked, or chipped.
5. Measure the spark plug gap with a feeler gauge, and correct as necessary. The gap should be
0.70 – 0.80 mm.
6. Check the condition of the spark plug washer and replace if necessary.
7. Gently hand-tighten the plug to prevent cross-threading.
8. After seated, tighten with spark plug wrench to compress washer.
9. Reinstall spark plug cap onto the spark plug.
