This document describes the SYLVANIA 9" Dual Screen Portable DVD Player, Model No.: SDVD9960-C. It is designed for household use and offers a range of features for portable entertainment.

Function Description

The SYLVANIA portable DVD player allows you to enjoy movies, music, and photos on the go. It features a dual-screen setup, enabling two viewers to watch simultaneously, making it ideal for car travel or shared viewing experiences. The main unit includes a DVD player, USB port, and SD/MMC card slot, providing multiple options for media playback. The device supports various disc formats including DVD, VCD, CD, MP3, CD-R/RW, DVD±R/RW, and MPEG4. It also supports playback of MP3, WMA, MPEG4, and JPEG files from USB devices and SD/MMC memory cards.

The player can be powered by an AC adapter for home use or a car adapter for in-vehicle use. It comes with a remote control for convenient operation, especially when the unit is mounted or placed at a distance. The main unit has a built-in stand for flat surface placement, while the monitor unit is designed for headrest mounting in a car.

Usage Features

Powering On/Off:

To turn on the main unit, slide the Power switch on the top side to the "ON" position after connecting the power supply. To turn off, slide the Power switch to "OFF." For the monitor unit, slide its Power switch on the right side to "ON" after connecting the DC cable from the main unit, and to "OFF" to power down. If the player will not be in use for a long period, slide the Power switch to "OFF" and unplug the portable DVD player from the power source.

Connecting External Devices:

The player can be connected to an external TV or monitor using the AV output jack. Ensure all equipment is switched off before connecting. Use the provided 3.5mm – RCA Cable to connect the AV Output on the unit to the audio/video inputs on the television. For connecting the unit to the monitor, use the AV Cable for AV Output/Input and the DC Cable for DC Output/Input.

Headrest Mount:

The device includes straps and a headrest mount slot. Attach the headrest mount to the main unit and monitor using the straps, then secure the unit to a car headrest with the velcro. The remote control can be used to operate the unit when it's mounted, pointing it towards the remote sensor.

Headphones:

A stereo headphone jack (3.5mm) is provided for private listening. When headphones are connected, the main speakers are automatically muted. Always set the player to a low volume before connecting headphones and gradually increase to a comfortable level to prevent hearing loss.

Disc Playback:

Slide the Power switch to "ON." Open the disc cover, insert a playable DVD or CD with the label side up, and close the cover. The player will scan the disc and begin playback automatically. If a disc menu appears, navigate using the Direction buttons and press ENTER. If parental control is active, a password may be required. During playback, press STOP to halt the disc.

Selecting Modes:

Press the SOURCE button on the remote control to switch between DVD, USB, and CARD modes, depending on the connected media.

Disc Menu and Navigation:

During disc playback, press the MENU button to return to the disc's root or title menu. For MP3/Picture discs, it will go to the file or folder list. Use the Direction buttons (UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT) or Numeric buttons to select options and press ENTER to confirm.

Playback Control:

  • Play/Pause: Press PLAY/PAUSE to pause or resume playback.
  • Volume: Use VOL+/VOL- buttons on the player or remote control to adjust volume. Press MUTE to temporarily silence the audio.
  • Track/Chapter Selection: Use PREVIOUS/NEXT buttons to skip to the previous or next title/chapter/track.
  • Fast Forward/Rewind: Press the fast forward or rewind buttons repeatedly to cycle through different speeds (X2, X4, X8, X16, X32) during playback. Press PLAY/PAUSE to return to normal playback.
  • Slow Motion: This feature allows for slow-motion playback on DVD, SVCD, and VCD discs.
  • Repeat A-B: Set a specific section of a track/chapter to repeat by pressing the Repeat A-B button to mark the start and end points. Press it a third time to cancel.
  • Repeat Playback: Press the Repeat button repeatedly to cycle through various repeat modes (chapter, title, all, track).
  • Program Playback: For DVD/VCD discs, use the PROGRAM button to create a sequence of up to 20 titles/chapters.
  • Zoom: Press the ZOOM button to magnify the video image (2X, 3X, 4X) or reduce it (1/2, 1/3, 1/4). Use Direction buttons to view different parts of the magnified image. For photo discs, zoom levels include 100%, 125%, 150%, 200%, 75%, and 50%.
  • Subtitle Languages: Press the SUBTITLE button to select desired subtitle languages on multi-subtitle DVDs.
  • Audio Soundtrack Languages: Press the AUDIO button to select different audio languages on multi-soundtrack DVDs.
  • Audio Channel (CD/MP3/VCD): Press the AUDIO button to select available audio channels (Left Mono, Right Mono, Mix-Mono, Stereo).
  • Information Display: Press the DISPLAY button to view disc playback information (video format, time, title, chapter, etc.).

USB and SD/MMC Card Playback:

Insert a USB device (up to 32GB flash memory) or an SD/MMC card into the respective slot. Press the USB/CARD button to switch to the correct mode. Navigate through directories and files using the Direction keys and press ENTER to play. Always stop playback or change modes before removing USB devices or memory cards.

System Setup:

Press the SETUP button on the remote control to access system settings, including:

  • General: Adjust TV display aspect ratio (4:3 Pan Scan/Letter Box/WIDE), Angle Mark display, OSD Language, Captions, Screen Saver, Last Memory, and Text To Speech function.
  • Speaker: Adjust audio setup, including Downmix settings (LT/RT, Stereo).
  • Panel Quality: Adjust display properties like Sharpness (LOW/MID/HIGH), Brightness, Contrast, Hue, and Saturation.
  • Preference: Adjust default DVD disk settings (only available when no media is in the unit), including TV Type (PAL, AUTO, NTSC), default Audio language, Subtitle language, Disc Menu language, Parental rating, and Password (default 0000). You can also reset to factory defaults.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning and Care:

  • Always turn off and unplug the unit before cleaning.
  • Clean the screen and plastic casing with a dry towel only. Do not spray or pour liquids directly onto the unit.
  • Avoid strong chemical agents or abrasive cleaners.
  • Ensure no residue or liquids enter the appliance to prevent electric shock.
  • Remove discs from the player before packing or moving.

Disc Care:

  • Handle discs by their edges, avoiding the recorded side.
  • To remove a disc from its case, press down on the center mechanism and lift the disc out.
  • Do not expose discs to direct sunlight, high humidity, or extreme temperatures.
  • Avoid bending or pressing discs.
  • Store discs vertically in their cases after use to prevent scratches.
  • Do not place stickers or labels on either side of a disc.
  • Clean discs with a dry, soft cloth, wiping from the center to the outside edge in a straight line.
  • Never use chemicals like record sprays, anti-static sprays, benzene, or thinners, as these can permanently damage the disc surface.

  • Do not operate the product with wet hands.
  • Unplug the adapter when not in use for long periods or before cleaning.
  • Route power supply cords to prevent them from being walked on or pinched.
  • Do not let power cords hang over edges or touch hot surfaces.

  • Avoid abrupt increases in volume to protect speakers.
