(1) Power input - The power input of this pedal is a standard 5.5 / 2.1 mm DC plug
(centre = negative). To power up your pedal, connect a power supply to its power
input socket. Ditto X2 Looper requires a 9 V power supply providing 100 mA or
more (not supplied). To minimize hum, use a power supply with isolated outputs.
You can also run Ditto X2 Looper using batteries.
(2) Audio inputs - This pedal has two standard ¼" jack TS inputs for stereo
operation. If your signal source is mono (e.g. a regular guitar or a mono eect
pedal), connect it to the MONO input.
(3) Audio outputs - This pedal has two standard ¼" TS outputs for stereo operation.
If the next device in the signal chain is mono, connect it to the MONO output.
(4) LOOP footswitch and LED - Use this footswitch to control all loop-related
functions of the pedal (record, playback, undo/ redo, clear).
(5) FX footswitch and LED - Use this footswitch to either control one of Ditto
X2 Looper’s built-in eects or to stop loop playback. The assignment of this
footswitch is determined by the setting of the FX selector switch.
(6) Loop / backing track level control knob - Use the LOOP LEVEL control knob
to control the level of your loops. Use the LOOP LEVEL control knob while
holding down the Store / Backing track level switch to control the level of
your backing track.
(7) Store / Delete / Backing track level switch
• To store the current loop as a backing track, nudge this switch up.
• To delete the stored loop/backing track, hold this switch in the up position for
three seconds.
• To set the level of the backing track, turn the Loop level control knob while
holding this switch in the down position.
(8) FX selector switch - Use this switch to determine the function of the FX
footswitch. Available settings are:
• Reverse: FX footswitch toggles the Reverse eect on and o.
• ½ Speed: FX footswitch toggles the Half speed eect on and o.
• Stop: FX footswitch acts as a dedicated stop footswitch.
(9) USB port - Connect Ditto X2 Looper to a computer to transfer loops between

Overview

The TC Electronic Ditto X2 Looper is a highly intuitive looper pedal designed for guitarists and other musicians, offering dedicated stop functionality and a range of loop effects. It allows users to record, play back, and overdub loops with ease, making it a versatile tool for practice, performance, and creative exploration.

Function Description:

The core function of the Ditto X2 Looper is to record and play back audio loops. It features a single LOOP footswitch for controlling all loop-related functions, including recording, playback, undo/redo, and clearing loops. An accompanying LED indicates the current status of the looper (red for record, green for playback). The pedal also includes an FX footswitch and an FX selector switch, allowing users to engage built-in effects like Reverse and Half Speed, or to configure the FX footswitch as a dedicated stop button.

The LOOP LEVEL control knob adjusts the playback volume of recorded loops. When held down in conjunction with the Store / Delete / Backing track level switch, this knob can also control the level of a backing track. The Store / Delete / Backing track level switch itself serves multiple purposes: nudging it up stores the current loop as a backing track, holding it up for three seconds deletes the stored loop/backing track, and holding it down while adjusting the LOOP LEVEL knob sets the backing track volume.

For connectivity, the Ditto X2 Looper features two standard ¼" jack TS inputs for stereo operation (with the MONO input being the primary for mono sources) and two standard ¼" jack TS outputs for stereo output (with the MONO output being the primary for mono signal chains). Power is supplied via a 9V DC power supply (centre = negative) providing 100 mA or more, though it can also run on batteries. A Mini-B USB port allows for transferring loops between the pedal and a computer, as well as installing firmware updates.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Bypass mode: True Bypass, ensuring that the pedal does not color the tone when disengaged.
  • Input connectors: 2 x ¼" TS, unbalanced.
  • Output connectors: 2 x ¼" TS, unbalanced.
  • Power input: Standard 5.5/2.1 mm DC, centre negative, requiring >100 mA (power supply not included).
  • Max. loop length: 5 minutes, providing ample time for complex loops.
  • Max. overdubs: Unlimited, allowing for endless layering of sounds.
  • Latency: None (analog dry-through), ensuring no delay in the dry signal.
  • USB port: Mini-B USB connector for data transfer and firmware updates.
  • Dimensions (H x W x D): 54 x 113 x 135 mm (2.1 x 4.4 x 5.3").
  • Weight: 0.55 kg (1.2 lbs), making it a portable and pedalboard-friendly device.

Usage Features:

  • Recording Loops: Press the LOOP footswitch once to enter Record Mode (LED lights red). Press again to end the loop and begin continuous playback (LED turns green). The LED blinks at the loop's starting point.
  • Adjusting Loop Volume: The LOOP LEVEL control knob adjusts the playback volume of recorded loops.
  • Overdubbing: While a loop is playing, press the LOOP footswitch again to enter Record Mode (LED turns red) and record an overdub. Press again to quit Record Mode and play back the original loop with the overdub.
  • Undo/Redo: During playback, press and hold the LOOP footswitch for 1.5 seconds or longer to undo the last recorded take. The LED blinks twice rapidly, and the last take is removed.
  • Stopping Playback/Recording: If the FX selector switch is set to "Stop," the FX footswitch can be used to stop playback. Alternatively, press the LOOP footswitch twice and hold down on the second tap for three seconds to delete the backing track and stop playback.
  • Deleting Loops/Backing Tracks: To delete a stored loop/backing track, hold the Store / Delete / Backing track level switch in the up position for three seconds.
  • Storing Loops as Backing Tracks: Nudge the Store / Delete / Backing track level switch up to store the current loop as a backing track.
  • Adjusting Backing Track Level: Hold the Store / Delete / Backing track level switch in the down position and turn the LOOP LEVEL control knob to set the backing track volume.
  • Loop Effects: The FX selector switch allows users to choose between "Reverse" (reverses the loop playback) and "1/2 Speed" (plays the loop at half speed). The FX footswitch then toggles these effects on and off.
  • Dedicated Stop Function: The FX selector switch can be set to "Stop," turning the FX footswitch into a dedicated stop button for the looper.

Maintenance Features:

  • Firmware Updates: The Mini-B USB port allows for easy installation of firmware updates, ensuring the pedal remains up-to-date with the latest features and improvements.
  • Loop Transfer: The USB port also facilitates transferring loops between the Ditto X2 Looper and a computer, enabling users to back up their loops or import new ones.
  • Power Supply: The pedal requires a standard 9V DC power supply with a negative center and at least 100 mA. Using a power supply with isolated outputs is recommended to minimize hum. The device can also be powered by batteries, offering flexibility for various setups.
