Do you have a question about the Technaxx TE22 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Technaxx® Car Power Inverter with 2 USB Ports TE22 is designed to convert your vehicle's 12V DC battery power into standard 230V AC household power, allowing you to operate a wide range of electronic devices on the go. This device is specifically engineered for permanent installation in automobiles (including lorries), caravans, and boats equipped with 12V battery systems. It is crucial to note that this inverter is only suitable for vehicles with 12V electrical systems and should not be used with electric charges exceeding 2000W continuously. Connecting it to a 6/24V battery is not recommended and could lead to damage.

Function Description

The primary function of the TE22 inverter is to provide versatile power conversion. It charges various electronic devices by converting 12V DC battery power into 230V AC, suitable for household electronics. Additionally, it features two USB ports for direct current charging. One is a USB-A Quick Charge 3.0 port, and the other is a USB-C port, both capable of delivering up to 12V and 3A. This dual functionality makes it ideal for powering and charging tablets, smartphones, laptop computers, game systems, small TVs, DVD/MP3 players, camping accessories, GPS units, and many other devices. The inverter is designed for a maximum continuous output of 2000W, with a peak output of 4000W, ensuring it can handle a variety of power demands.

Usage Features

The TE22 inverter is equipped with several features to enhance its usability and safety. It includes two Schuko plugs, each with an On/Off switch, providing convenient control over connected AC devices. The device incorporates automatic safety shutdown mechanisms to protect your car battery; an alarm will sound at approximately 10.5V, prompting the inverter to shut off to prevent deep discharge. It also features high/low voltage protection and overload protection, safeguarding both the inverter and your connected devices from potential damage due to power fluctuations or excessive load. An integrated cooling fan provides overheating protection, automatically activating when the internal temperature exceeds a preset limit and turning off once the temperature reduces.

To operate the inverter, simply hold the ON/OFF button on the front panel for three seconds. A green LED indicator light will confirm that the inverter is receiving power. When connecting multiple loads, it is recommended to turn them on separately after the inverter is active to prevent it from having to deliver the starting current for all loads simultaneously. The LCD digital display provides real-time information on input voltage (DC), output voltage (AC), percentage of battery load, and percentage of output load, allowing you to monitor the device's performance. The USB ports share a maximum output of 6000mA. LED indicators also provide status updates: green for normal operation, yellow for low voltage alarm or overload protection, and red when connected to the battery.

When installing the inverter, choose sturdy, even, clean, dry, and non-flammable surfaces in well-ventilated areas. Ensure that the vents are not covered to allow for proper cooling. Connecting the inverter involves two DC cable connections, one positive and one negative. It is crucial to follow the connection procedure carefully to minimize the risk of sparking near the battery bank. Always select the OFF position on the inverter before connecting cables. Securely attach the red positive (+) cable lead to the red positive (+) screw connector stud and the black negative (-) cable lead to the black negative (-) screw connector stud. Then, connect the red positive (+) cable lead to the positive (+) terminal of the battery or power source, and the black negative (-) cable lead to the negative (-) terminal. A 2.00mm² or larger insulated wire should be connected between the chassis ground connector on the inverter and a clean electrical grounding point on the vehicle to minimize electrical noise interference with TVs or radios.

Maintenance Features

The TE22 inverter is designed with several protective features that also contribute to its maintenance and longevity. The cooling fan, as mentioned, prevents overheating by automatically turning on and off as needed. If the inverter's temperature reaches approximately 80°C, it will automatically shut down. In such cases, turn off the inverter and allow it to cool for at least 15 minutes before restarting, ensuring that the total wattage of connected devices is within the inverter's rating.

The inverter also has built-in circuit protection with six 40A internal car fuses, which are replaceable (technical assistance is suggested for replacement). This protects against overload conditions. If an overload occurs, the inverter will automatically shut down, and a yellow fault indicator will light up, accompanied by an alarm. To reset the inverter after an overload, turn it off, unplug all devices, and then turn it back on. Before reconnecting devices, verify that their total wattage is less than the inverter's rating.

For optimal performance and to avoid damage, it is important to determine the total wattage required by your equipment before use. Watt ratings are usually found in equipment manuals or on nameplates. If only amperage is listed, multiply it by the AC utility voltage (230V) to find the wattage. Remember that the vehicle's battery will discharge when the vehicle is not running, so plan usage accordingly. To estimate DC battery amps required, divide the total wattage by the nominal battery voltage (12V). To estimate battery amp-hours needed, multiply the DC amps by the estimated operating hours and then by 1.2 to compensate for inefficiency. This helps in determining the necessary battery capacity. Technaxx recommends purchasing as much battery capacity as possible.

The inverter is shielded and filtered to minimize signal interference with TVs or audio devices. If interference occurs, try altering the position of the inverter, antenna cables, and television power cord. Using an extension cord to isolate the TV's power cord and antenna cables from the 12V power source can also help. Coiling the television power cord and input cables, or affixing Ferrite Data Line Filters to the television power cord, can further improve reception. Grounding the inverter with a minimum 0.75mm² wire, using the shortest possible length, is also recommended.

It is crucial not to place the power inverter near heat sources (radiators, direct sunlight), flammable materials, battery compartments, or starter batteries. Avoid moist locations or areas exposed to dripping or splashing water, and environments with explosion hazards. Ensure adequate ventilation during operation by not blocking fan or cooling vents and not covering the device. Keep the device dry at all times and disconnect it when not in use. Always turn off connected equipment before starting your engine. Do not plug a surge protector, line conditioner, or UPS system into the device. If using AC extension cords, use the heaviest practical gauge. Before connecting a battery charger or adapter, check its manual to ensure compatibility with the inverter's technical specifications. The device is not intended for use by children or persons with limited mental capacity or lacking experience without supervision. It is not intended for commercial use, and any improper use or modification will void liability for damages.
