TDS1000B and TDS2000B Series Oscilloscope Service Manual
6-- 1
Maintenance
This chapter contains the information needed to do periodic and corrective
maintenance on the oscilloscope, as well as repackaging instructions if you need
to return the oscilloscope to Tektronix for service.
Preventing ESD
Before servicing this product, read the Safety Summary and Introduction at the
front of the manual and the electrostatic discharge (ESD) information below.
CAUTION. Static discharge can damage any semiconductor component in this
oscilloscope.
When performing any service which requires internal access to the oscilloscope,
adhere to the following precautions. These precautions help you avoid damaging
internal modules and their components due to electrostatic discharge (ESD).
H Minimize handling of static-sensitive modules.
H Transport and store static-sensitive modules in their static protected
containers or on a metal rail. Label any package that contains static-sensitive
modules.
H Discharge the static voltage from your body by wearing a grounded antistatic
wrist strap while handling these modules.
H Service static-sensitive modules only at static-free workstations. Do not
allow anything capable of generating or holding a static charge on the
workstation surface.
H Handle circuit boards by the edges when possible.
H Do not slide the modules over any surface.
H Avoid handling modules in areas that have a floor or work-surface covering
capable of generating a static charge.
