Overview

The Teufel T 500 F 16 are column speakers designed for home audio systems, specifically for playing back audio signals from a power amplifier. These speakers are part of the THEATER 500 series and offer versatile connection options, including standard, bi-wiring, and bi-amping configurations, to enhance sound quality and performance.

Function Description:

The primary function of the T 500 F 16 speakers is to reproduce audio. They are designed to be used as front speakers in a stereo or home cinema setup. The bi-wiring and bi-amping capabilities allow for a more refined audio experience by separating the signal paths for different frequency ranges. In a bi-wiring setup, two separate speaker cables connect the speaker to the amplifier/AV receiver, one for the low-range branch and another for the medium/high-range branch, which can improve sound decoupling. For bi-amping, each frequency branch (low, and medium/high) is driven by its own power amplifier, further enhancing performance and sound quality. The speakers are intended for domestic use only.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model: T 500 F 16
  • Type: Column Speakers
  • Connection Options: Bi-Wiring / Bi-Amping capable
  • Dimensions (WxHxD): 200 x 1050 x 292 mm
  • Weight: 21.6 kg
  • Manufacturer: Lautsprecher Teufel GmbH

Usage Features:

  • Setup Location: The speakers should be placed on a stable, level base or against a suitable wall, away from heat sources and direct sunlight. It's crucial to ensure the environment is clean and dust-free. Cables should be laid to prevent tripping hazards, and no heavy objects should be placed on the cables or speakers.
  • Protective Grids: If the front speakers are positioned behind a screen, the protective grids should be removed to compensate for any high-frequency absorption by the screen. Users are warned not to touch the highly sensitive diaphragms.
  • Stereo Triangle: For optimal sound, the front speakers should be set up to the right and left of the screen, ideally at a height of approximately 80 to 160 cm. They should form an equilateral triangle with the listener, known as the stereo triangle (distance to listener = distance between speakers). Angling the speakers towards the listening position can further improve sound quality.
  • Connection:
    • Normal Connection: Speakers are connected with one 2-strand speaker cable each. The contact bridges between the connector terminals must remain in place. Cables can be connected to either the top or bottom terminals.
    • Bi-Wiring/Bi-Amping: For these configurations, the contact bridges must be removed. This is done by loosening the connector terminals counterclockwise and pulling the bridges out. The upper terminals lead to the high and mid-range speakers, while the bottom terminals lead to the low-range speakers.
    • Cable Preparation: Single wires should be split by approximately 30 mm, with about 10 mm of insulation removed from each end. The wires should be twisted to prevent strands from protruding.
    • Terminal Connection: Turn the connector terminal counterclockwise until loose, insert the stripped cable end into the visible hole, and then turn clockwise to clamp the cable in place.
    • Polarity: It is critical to connect like-colored terminals of the speakers and the amplifier/AV receiver to ensure correct polarity and optimal sound quality. Speaker cables are typically marked to facilitate this.
  • Volume Control: Extended listening at high volumes can lead to hearing loss. Users are advised to avoid this by maintaining a certain distance from the device and never placing an ear directly on the speaker when the volume is high. Before turning on the power, the signal source device volume control should be set to a low setting to prevent very high sound pressure, which can have psychological and physical consequences, especially for children and pets.
  • Magnetic Material: The product contains magnetic material. Individuals with implants like pacemakers or defibrillators should consult their physician regarding potential effects. Magnetically sensitive objects (e.g., credit cards) should be kept away from the speakers.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning:
    • For dust or small amounts of dirt, a dry, smooth leather cloth is recommended.
    • For stubborn dirt, a damp cloth can be used. Ensure no liquid penetrates the housing.
    • Immediately wipe damp surfaces with a soft cloth without applying pressure.
    • Only plain water without additives should be used. For stubborn marks, a mild soap solution may be applied.
    • Caustic cleaning products, white spirit, thinners, petrol, or similar agents should never be used, as they can damage the delicate surface of the housing.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides basic troubleshooting advice. If playback is noisy, ensure the signal source is clear, as high-resolution speakers can expose poor quality signals (e.g., from MP3 files). If the sound seems dull, check that all speaker cables are connected with correct polarity. Further assistance and FAQs are available on the manufacturer's website or via their hotline.
  • Original Packaging: It is strongly recommended to retain the original packaging, as returns are only accepted with it. Empty boxes are not available.
  • Complaints: For complaints, the invoice number and the serial or batch number (found on the back of the device) are required.
  • Disposal: In accordance with the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (Germany: ElektroG), old electrical and electronic devices, as well as batteries and rechargeable batteries (if removable), must be disposed of separately from municipal waste at official collection points. Personal data on old appliances should be deleted before disposal. The manufacturer provides information on their website regarding disposal points.
