Do you have a question about the Teufel T 130 D and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

This document provides the technical description and operating instructions for the Teufel T 130 D rear speakers. These speakers are designed for private use and are intended to enhance audio experiences in a home setting.

Function Description:

The Teufel T 130 D speakers are rear speakers, meaning they are typically positioned behind or to the side of the listener to create a surround sound experience. They feature a toggle switch that allows users to switch between "normal" and "dipole" modes. In dipole mode, sound is emitted from both the front and back of the speaker, creating a more diffuse and immersive sound field, which is particularly beneficial for surround sound applications. The protective grids on the front of the speakers are secured by magnets and can be easily removed. Removing these grids can result in clearer high-frequency output.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Product Contents: 2 Rear speakers T 130 D
  • Dimensions (H x W x D): 260 x 163 x 208 mm
  • Weight: 10.5 kg
  • Nominal Impedance: 4 - 8 Ohm

Usage Features:

  • Proper Use: The speakers should only be used as described in the operating instructions. Any other use may lead to property damage or personal injury.
  • Setup:
    • Stable Base: Always place the speakers on a stable, level base.
    • Environment: Ensure the environment is clean and free from dust. Avoid placing the unit close to heat sources or in direct sunlight.
    • Cable Management: Arrange connector cables to prevent trip hazards. Avoid placing heavy objects on cables or speakers.
    • Vibration: Ensure the speaker is in a solid state to avoid vibrations.
    • Dipole Mode: The T 130 D rear speakers feature a toggle switch between the connector terminals to select "normal" or "dipole" mode. In dipole mode, sound is emitted from both the front and back.
  • Possible Arrangements:
    • Standard Dipole Setup: Dipole rear speakers are typically set up or hung at head height (140 to 210 cm) to the side of the listener. They should project sound to the front and back, with a minimum distance of 10 cm from the rear wall.
    • Narrow Room Setup: For narrow rooms, the rear speakers can be placed at a height of 140 to 210 cm behind the listener, situated at a 45-degree angle. This setup directs sound towards the walls, creating spatial diffusion in dipole mode. The distance to the walls should also be at least 10 cm.
  • Mounting: Special assembly materials such as cords, speaker stands, wall brackets, and resonance dampers adapted for these speakers are available from Teufel's webshop.
  • Removing Protective Grids: The magnetic protective grids can be removed by reaching behind them and slowly pulling them off the front. Caution is advised not to touch the sensitive diaphragms.
  • Connecting:
    1. Power Disconnection: Before connecting, pull the power plug of your amplifier/AV receiver or multi-channel active subwoofer from the outlet.
    2. Speaker Cables: Use high-quality double-wire speaker cables with marked strands, with a diameter of at least 1.5 mm².
    3. Terminal Connection: Each speaker has two terminals (red (+) and black (-)) on the back. Connect the speaker cables to these terminals.
    4. Polarity: Ensure correct polarity by connecting like-colored terminals to avoid sound quality issues.
    5. Cable Preparation: Split the single wire down to approx. 30 mm on both ends and strip approx. 10 mm of insulation. Twist the stripped ends to prevent wire protrusion.
    6. Terminal Fastening: Turn the connector terminal counterclockwise to loosen, insert the stripped cable end into the visible hole, and then turn clockwise to clamp the cable.
    7. Repeat: Connect the cables to the other speaker in the same way.
    8. Amplifier Connection: Connect the speaker cables to your amplifier/AV receiver or multi-channel active subwoofer, following the appliance's operating instructions.
    9. Power Reconnection: Reinsert the power plug of your amplifier/AV receiver or multi-channel active subwoofer into the outlet.
  • Safety Notes:
    • Hearing Protection: Loud noise can cause hearing loss. Set volume controls to a low setting, maintain distance from the unit when volume is high, and avoid extended listening at high volumes.
    • Children: Keep children away from the unit and packing film to prevent suffocation. Ensure children do not remove small parts that could be swallowed. Do not allow children to operate electrical devices unsupervised.
    • Injury/Damage: Do not use speakers unmounted in vehicles, unstable locations, or on insufficient brackets. Arrange cables to prevent trip hazards. Adhere to assembly instructions. Ensure walls have sufficient carrying capacity for wall mounting. Avoid placing speakers near heat sources.
    • Fire Hazard: Do not place open flames on the unit. Ensure sufficient ventilation. Do not place the unit in direct sunlight. Use only in indoor areas. Avoid damp areas, water drops, and splashes. Do not place liquid-filled containers on or near the speaker.

Maintenance Features:

  • Care and Cleaning:
    • Veneered Surfaces: The speakers have a protective surface coat, eliminating the need for wood polish.
    • Dust/Light Dirt: Remove dust or small amounts of dirt with a dry, smooth leather cloth.
    • Stubborn Dirt: Rub off stubborn dirt with a damp cloth, ensuring no liquids penetrate the speakers. Immediately wipe surfaces dry with a soft cloth without applying pressure.
    • Cleaning Materials: Only use plain water without additives. For stubborn marks, a mild soap solution may be used. Never use caustic cleaning products, white spirit, thinners, petrol, or similar, as they can damage the delicate surface.

Troubleshooting:

  • Noisy Playback: If playback is noisy, it may be due to the speaker system's high resolution exposing poor quality from the signal source (e.g., MP3 files). Ensure the source is sending a clear signal.
  • Dull Sound: If the sound seems dull, verify that the speaker cables are connected with the correct poles.

Environmental Protection:

  • Disposal: Used units must not be disposed of with household waste. If the unit is no longer operational, consumers are legally required to dispose of used devices separately at a communal collection point. This ensures proper recycling and avoids negative environmental consequences. The electrical equipment is labeled with a specific symbol to indicate this.
