INFORMATIONMANUAL
(1)Propellerremovalandinstallationshallbeperformedonlybyqualiedmaintenancepersonnel.
Thefollowinginstructionsaregeneralinnature.TheaircraftmaintenancemanualorSTC
installationinstructionsshouldalwaysbeconsultedforanyspecializedproceduresapplicable
toaspecicaircraft.VariousspinneranddeicearrangementsnotmanufacturedbyMcCauley
maybeusedwhichrequireadditionalprocedures.
NOTE:Qualiedmaintenancepersonnelmeansthepersondoingthemaintenanceactivity
istheholderof,orisworkingunderthedirectsupervisionof,theholderofthe
appropriateratingtoapprovethepropellerforreturntoserviceafterthemaintenance
activityhasbeenaccomplished.
(2)Inthefollowinginstructions,installationofthepropellerisbasedontheassumptionthata
McCauleyspinnerwillbeused.Ifaspinnerisnotusedorifthespinnerisnotmanufacturedby
McCauley,omitthosestepswhichapplytothespinner.
WARNING:Verifythatenginemagnetoshavebeengroundedpriorto
approachingthepropeller.
B.SpinnerAssemblyRemoval
CAUTION:Makesureyoudonotdamageorscratchthebladeswhenremoving
thespinnershell.
(1)Forallpropellerinstallations:
(a)Makeanalignmentmarkonthespinnershell,spinneraftbulkheadandtheNo.1propeller
bladewithafelttippen.Thisindexmarkensuresaccuraterestorationofspinnershell
positiontolessenthedistortionofanydynamicbalancepreviouslyperformedonthe
propellerassembly.
NOTE:Thepropellerbladenumberwillbestampedontheforwardsideofeach
propellerhubbladesocket.
(b)Removescrewsandwashersfromthespinnerandlletassemblies(RefertoFigure401).
(c)Removespinnerfromthebulkheadandlletassemblies.
(d)Removethespinnersupportandshimsfromthefrontofthepropellercylinder.
(e)Ifrequired,removescrewsandwashersattachingspinnerlletstobulkheadandremove
thellets.Identifylocationofeachllettothebulkhead.

Forpropellersequippedwithananti-icesystem(anti-iceuidshoes)
a
Removeclampsecuringhosetoeachlletassembly(refertotheAnti-Ice
sectionofthismanualforadditionalremovalinstructions).

Removeeachlletassemblyfromthehose.
C.PropellerAssemblyRemoval
(1)Removecowlingasrequiredforaccesstomountingnuts.
(2)Ifrequired,removethedeiceleads.
(3)Placeadrippanunderthepropellermountingsurfacetocatchanyspilledengineoilwhenthe
propellerisremoved.
(4)BreakthetorqueonthepropellermountingnutsonContinentalengineinstallations.
(5)LiftthePropeller
(a)Installthepropellerslingandattachtoahoist.Ifahoistisnotavailable,thepropellermay
besupportedandliftedbyhand.
NOTE:Makesureanadequatenumberofpeopleareavailabletoadequatelysupport
thepropellerifahoistisnotused.
(b)Thestrapsofthepropellerslingshouldbeplacedontwoofthepropellerbladesatleast6
inches(152mm)outboardofthepropellerhub.Makesureyouprotectthedeicebootsor
anti-iceshoesfrompotentialpropellerslingabrasiondamage,ifinstalled.
