PROPELLERREMOVAL/INSTALLATION
1.GroundSupportEquipment
A.ThefollowingspecialequipmentismayberequiredforeldmaintenanceofMcCauleypropellers.

2.UncratingandAcceptanceCheckingaNewPropeller
A.Uncratingthepropeller.
(1)Placethecratedpropellerinanareathathasgoodlightingandwherethereissufcientroomto
removethecratingandpackagingmaterialwiththepropellerlayingatagainsttheoorortable
topofsufcientsizetosupportthepropeller(withthepropellermountingangefacingdown).
(2)Inspecttheexteriorofthecratedpropellerforsignsofdamage.Ifthereareanysignsofdamage,
makesurethepropelleristhoroughlyinspectedintheareaoftheobservedcratedamageafter
ithasbeenremovedfromthepackagingmaterial.
(3)Removethecrateandpackagingmaterial.
NOTE:McCauleyusesavarietyofshippingcontainersandmaterials.Forthreeblade
propellers,thecratingmaterialisalmostalwayscorrugatedcardboard,withthebox
intheshapeofarectangleora"Y".
(4)Afterthepropellerisfreeofthecrateandpackagingmaterial,placethepropelleronapropeller
standofsufcientsizetosafelyholdthepropeller.
CAUTION:Neverstoreorstandapropelleronapropellerbladetip.Damage
tothepropellermayoccurifitisnotproperlyhandledafterithas
beenremovedfromtheshippingcontainer.
B.AcceptanceCheck
(1)Doavisualinspectionofthepropellerbladesandhubforsurfacedamagesuchasdents,nicks,
scratches,andhubcorrosion.Sightdowntheedgesofeachpropellerbladetomakesurethere
isnodamage.
NOTE:Itispossibleforapropellertosustainshippingdamagewhilecratedandforthe
shippingcontainertonotsustainsubstantialdamageasaresultoftheshipping
damage.
(2)Retaintheinstallationpartsthatareshippedwiththepropellerforusewhenthepropelleristo
beinstalled.
NOTE:Ifthepropellerhasbeenshippedwithoneormoreofthepropellerbladesremovedfromthe
hub,thepropellermustbereassembledbyanFAAapprovedPart145PropellerRepairStation
orinternationalequivalent.
