Why is my Thermal Care RA Temperature Controller overheating and overcooling?

      Daniel CrawfordAug 4, 2025
If your Thermal Care Temperature Controller is alternating between overheating and overcooling, or rapidly cycling from heat to cool, several factors could be at play. First, check the water flow by examining connectors and increasing their size if needed. For systems with many or long hoses, shorten hose runs and maximize hose size to reduce pressure drop. If quick disconnects with check valves are present, remove the check valves to decrease pressure drop. Also, inspect the thermocouple connection and replace it if necessary. Finally, consider replacing the controller if the microprocessor has failed.

What to do if my Thermal Care RA Temperature Controller is unable to heat properly?

If your Thermal Care Temperature Controller isn't heating properly, start by checking the solenoid valve. Try flushing it out by adjusting the Set Point up and down several times to open and close it. If that doesn't work, stop the unit, turn off the power and water, and disassemble the solenoid valve for cleaning or replacement. Also, inspect for leaks and replace any faulty valves. Have a qualified electrician verify the functionality of the immersion heater and/or heater contactor, replacing any defective components. Consider replacing the controller if there is a microprocessor controller failure, replacing the thermocouple if it has failed, replacing the heater if it has failed, or replacing the heater contactor if it has failed.

How to troubleshoot cooling issues with my Thermal Care RA Temperature Controller?

If your Thermal Care Temperature Controller is unable to cool properly, verify that the cooling water supply provides sufficient temperature, volume, and pressure. Check the drain (cooling water return line) for any restrictions that might be preventing proper cooling water flow. If the solenoid valve is inoperative, check the drain (cooling water return line) and see if you can feel or hear a change in the flow as the solenoid valve opens and closes. If you cannot hear or feel the flow it is likely the solenoid valve has failed, so replace it if necessary. For models with a heat exchanger, clean or replace it if it's plugged. If there is high backpressure in the cooling water system, reduce it and contact our Customer Service Department for assistance on selecting a pressure-regulating va...
