Do you have a question about the Timex M097 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

This document describes a Timex Higher-Function Analog Watch, a timepiece designed for various functionalities beyond basic timekeeping. The manual covers multiple models, including analog/digital, multi-function, day/date/AM/PM/sun/moon, and chronograph watches, each with specific features and operating instructions.

Function Description

The Timex Higher-Function Analog Watch offers a range of functionalities depending on the specific model:

  • Basic Timekeeping: All models display hours, minutes, and seconds.
  • Indiglo® Night-Light: An electroluminescent technology that illuminates the entire watch face in low-light conditions.
  • Night-Mode® Feature: Activates the Indiglo® night-light for an extended period (3 or 8 hours, depending on the model) with any button press.
  • Digital Display (Analog/Digital Models): Cycles through various functions including Time/Calendar, Daily Alarm, Countdown Timer, Chronograph, and Dual Time.
  • Daily Alarm: Programmable alarm with a 20-second beep.
  • Chime (Hourly Signal): Can be activated or deactivated.
  • Countdown Timer: Up to 24 hours, with a 20-second beep when it reaches zero.
  • Chronograph (Stopwatch): Measures elapsed time, lap time, or split time with varying precision (1/2 second, 1/100 second, or 1 second increments) and maximum durations (up to 11 hours 59 minutes 59 seconds, 24 hours, or 29 minutes 59 seconds, depending on the model).
  • Multi-Function Models: Display date, day, and 24-hour time on small sub-dials.
  • Day/Date/AM/PM/Sun/Moon Models: Display day, date, and AM/PM or sun/moon phase.
  • Elapsed Time Ring: A rotatable outer ring with minute markings to time activities or mark ending times.
  • Tachymeter Ring: Used to measure speed in MPH, knots, or KPH based on elapsed time over a known distance.
  • Compass Ring: A movable ring with cardinal directions (N, E, W, S) or compass degrees to find approximate directional readings using the sun.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Water Resistance: Indicated in meters (WR_M) on the watch face or caseback. Available depths include 30m/98ft (60 p.s.i.a.), 50m/164ft (86 p.s.i.a.), 100m/328ft (160 p.s.i.a.), and 200m/656ft (284 p.s.i.a.).
  • Shock Resistance: Designed to pass ISO tests for shock resistance, indicated on the watch face or caseback.
  • Battery Type: Indicated on the caseback. Battery life estimates are based on usage assumptions and may vary.
  • Chronograph Precision and Duration:
    • Type 1: Measures up to 1 hour (minutes elapsed), 12 hours (hours elapsed), and 1 minute (seconds elapsed).
    • Type 2: Measures up to 11 hours 59 minutes 59 seconds in 1/2 second increments.
    • Type 3: Measures up to 1 second in 1/20 second increments, up to 1 minute in seconds, and up to 30 minutes in minutes.
    • Type 4: Measures up to 1 minute in seconds and up to 1 hour in minutes.
    • Type 5: Measures up to 29 minutes 59 seconds in 1-second increments.

Usage Features

  • Starting the Watch: Remove the plastic guard from under the crown and press the crown against the case. For deep-depth water-resistant models, the crown may need to be screwed in after setting.
  • Setting Analog Time: Pull the crown to position "B", turn to the correct time, and push back to position "A".
  • Setting Digital Time/Calendar: Use pusher "A" to cycle through functions. Use pusher "D" to enter setting mode (seconds flash), pusher "C" to adjust values (e.g., reset seconds to "00", advance hours), and pusher "A" to move between settings (e.g., hour to minute). Pusher "D" completes the setting.
  • Fast Advance: In setting mode, pressing and holding pusher "C" for 2 seconds activates fast advance for quicker adjustments.
  • Daily Alarm Activation/Deactivation: Use pusher "A" to display the Daily Alarm, then pusher "C" to toggle activation.
  • Countdown Timer Operation: Use pusher "A" to display the timer, pusher "D" to enter setting mode (hour flashes), pusher "C" to adjust values, and pusher "D" to complete setting. Pusher "C" starts the timer, and pusher "D" stops/resumes it.
  • Chronograph Operation:
    • Standard Measurement: Pusher "C" starts timing, pusher "D" stops timing, and pusher "D" resets.
    • Lap/Split Time Measurement: Pusher "D" selects LAP or SPLIT. Pusher "C" starts timing. Pusher "C" records lap/split times (digits freeze for 15 seconds while background timing continues). Pusher "A" views running display. Pusher "D" stops, and pusher "D" resets.
  • Dual Time Setting: Use pusher "A" to display Dual Time, pusher "D" to enter setting mode (hour flashes), pusher "C" to adjust values, and pusher "D" to complete setting.
  • Setting Day/Date/AM/PM/Sun/Moon (Multi-Function Models): Pull the crown to specific positions ("C" for day/time, "B" for date) and rotate to adjust.
  • Adjusting Chronograph Hands to Zero: If chronograph hands do not return to zero after reset or battery replacement, pull the crown to position "C" (or "B" for some models) and use pushers "A" or "B" to move hands to the zero position. Push the crown back to normal.
  • Elapsed Time Ring Usage: Rotate the outer ring to align the Start/Stop triangle with the activity's start time (hour or minute) to measure duration, or with the desired completion time to track progress.
  • Tachymeter Ring Usage: Start the chronograph with the second hand at zero. After covering a known distance (e.g., 1 mile/km), the second hand will point to the speed on the tachymeter scale.
  • Compass Ring Usage: Lay the watch flat or hold it parallel to the ground. Point the hour hand at the sun. Rotate the ring to align "S" (South) halfway between the hour hand and 12:00 (AM: after hour hand; PM: before hour hand).

Maintenance Features

  • Water Resistance Warning: Do not press buttons or pull the crown underwater unless the watch is rated for 200 meters. Rinse with fresh water after exposure to saltwater.
  • Shock Resistance Care: While designed to be shock-resistant, care should be taken to avoid damaging the crystal.
  • Battery Replacement: Timex strongly recommends battery replacement by a retailer or jeweler. If applicable, press the reset button when replacing the battery. Do not dispose of batteries in fire, do not recharge, and keep loose batteries away from children.
  • Bracelet Adjustment:
    • Sliding Clasp: Open the locking plate, slide the clasp to the desired length, apply pressure while holding the plate, and slide until it engages in the grooves. Press the locking plate down until it snaps closed.
    • Foldover Clasp: Locate the spring bar connecting the bracelet to the clasp. Use a pointed tool to push in the spring bar and gently twist to disengage. Determine wrist size and insert the spring bar into the correct bottom hole. Push down on the spring bar, align with the top hole, and release to lock.
  • Bracelet Link Removal: Place the bracelet upright and insert a pointed tool into the link opening. Push the pin forcefully in the direction of the arrow until the link detaches. Repeat until the desired number of links are removed. Reassemble by rejoining parts and pushing the pin back in the opposite direction of the arrow until flush.
  • Warranty: Timex offers an international warranty. Details can be found on the Timex website.
