Traffic information
Important: Reliable TMC Traffic reception is strongly dependent on: optimal
antenna placement, vehicle features (such as a coated windshield),
surrounding environment (such as mountains, high buildings), RDS-TMC
Radio station transmission signal.
Some vehicles have a heat reflective shield embedded in the windshield,
which may prevent TomTom GO from locating your current position. If this is
a problem in your vehicle, use the TomTom External Antenna Kit (available as
an accessory).
You can obtain traffic information in two ways:
• From TomTom Traffic.
• From the Traffic Message Channel (TMC).
TomTom Traffic
TomTom Traffic is a TomTom service for receiving up-to-date traffic
information. TomTom Traffic requires a Bluetooth-enabled cell phone and a
wireless data connection (GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, CDMA).
TomTom Traffic uses the most up-to-date information from the best local
sources. For more information and details about a free trial, refer to the
TomTom PLUS leaflet.
Setting up TomTom Traffic
To use TomTom Traffic, you need to establish a connection between your cell
phone and your TomTom GO. Then do the following:
1. Tap TomTom Traffic in the Main Menu.
2. Tap Enable Traffic.
The Traffic Message Channel (TMC)
TMC transmits traffic information as a radio signal. TMC is not a TomTom
service but is available via the TomTom RDS-TMC Traffic Receiver (available
as an accessory for GO 720 and other compatible models).
Note: TomTom is not responsible for the availability or quality of traffic
information provided by TMC.
